'Twas a grey sky in Conroe today....that didn't keep the TWT faithful from attending the pie run though

She was sick today :(

Had a great time conversing with Joe, Ken, Kurt, Jamie, Phil, Tony, Jack, Tina, Bambi, Jeff and his wife (whose name I cannot recall now ) Thanks again Chuck for another succesful pie run, looked like about 100 or so showed up.

It was good to see so many familiar faces and some new ones.
Best coconut pie I have ever tasted. I think Pie in the Sky did a much better job this year of organizing and getting folks food to them in a timely manner. I had something called Marlene's Bowl (chicken salad on a base of fresh fruit), man was it good.

We ended up riding home in some drizzle after a ride out to Carlos and back to Huntsville. But all in all it has been a great day.

I also had a short ride of about 8 miles, but it was nice to see everyone again and meets some new faces.
Lots of nice bikes and a trike with a S/B Chevy engine.
Thanks Mike and Mrs. Mike for letting me sit at your table and sharing the pie sampler platter.

After leaving 4 of us went for a short ride, saw Abby's new place (nice) and stopped for a fuel stop in Montgomery.
It was looking like rain and starting to mist so we opted to just call it a day and headed our separate ways.

I had a great day and nice ride on my old antique bike.

Good to see my TWT family today. Good roads, good food, and great friends.

MBrew & BBrew are safe at home with 442 miles on the Connie and our bottoms - ouy vey our bottoms! Leon led all the way down and back and selected the route as well, and he did great. We got into some very heavy mist or light rain and he got pretty damp and for the first time, I didn't. This riding behind a windshield stuff has it advantages.

Hope everyone else make it home safe as well & Happy Motoring

Susan (tortuga) and I got in about 20 minutes ago - 489 miles on the GPS for the two of us - FJR and MP3. That MP3 gets all the looks and questions whenever we stop for gas! :sun:

I made my delivery to Kurt & saw a bunch of folks again, plus I think I remember some others.

Collin228 or something like that won the Cli-Max Riding Gear gift certificate. I'll get him together with Terry & get that set up.

Also, I found I had an extra TWT banner & door prized it off, too. Ms. Bambi was the winner of that one.

A nice young feller in the dining room did the drawing from Susan's hat (I forgot my Pie Town hat  )

Thanks to all who joined us today - always a wide variety of bikes to gawk over. :thumb:

Susan and I got about a 100 miles of that misty drizzle - going up 149 and then 39 to Mexia. It never was really raining, just enough to make the riding a little slower and a little more tense. But not much traffic on 39, so as least we weren't hassled. We were glad when it finally stopped somewhere south of Mexia.

Chuck, thanks for everything you do putting these together. I'm sure sorry I couldn't make this one. I had considered another SS1000 to get there but work has been crazy and I couldn't get away.

Ditto all the positive buzz!! I always enjoy talking to all of you. The group was so big, I didn't really get a chance to catch up with very many. Those that I didn't catch, my best thoughts to you and yours.

Tony :sun::sun::sun:

Even though Conway Twitty failed to make an appearance at the restaurant, the day was filled with meeting new riders and linking-up with old friends. Kurt came from Austin by car despite the fact he recently had a hernia operation. What a trooper!

Special thanks for Collins for allowing me to test ride his Multistrads 1200. This bike hardly needs an introduction, does it? The Ducati Multistrada is the most hotly anticipated, intensely discussed new motorcycle since…okay, since the Honda VFR1200F.

Collin's Ducati 1200 is one heck of an amazing bike and lives up to the hype!

Thanks,

RB

it sounded so good when its care taker road off on it, it made me wonder if the modern advances of no touch fuel injection, leak proof cases and radial tubeless tires are realy worth having.

no trip down 45 is complete without a visit to Sam!

Great ride. Was about a mile from the house when it decided to rain. Great ride back.

Same here, followed TombstoneRider back to Bryan, then last couple of miles, the rain started as I got onto Hwy 6. Sort of lucked out that it didn't downpour any earlier on our way back.

Sorry Lori couldn't make it, she had an 18 hour day with a Tennis Tournement in Taylor on Friday. She got back around 11pm Friday, tired-sore-and a bit sunburned! Last thing on her mind was a 160 mile bike run after that :(

Highlight of this run was my odometer finally rolling over 100K miles on the way back, been waiting for that "milestone" for a few months now. Now the maintenance begins....not really thrilled with that, but everything is due on that bike right now, time to get it ready for the summer runs.

Great seeing everyone again. I was fortunate that my wife could join me for this Pie Run. We left Austin at 7:30am under fog and a slight mist with 51°.
Feb262011PieInSky018.jpg

With the humidity so high it was difficult to keep the helmets from fogging on the inside.
Feb262011PieInSky017.jpg

The ride was uneventful, we made good time and were some of the first to arrive.

I had a grilled turkey and mushroom soup, it hit the spot.

My wife had the mushroom burger, she loves burgers.

Does she look happy! love that smile (ps. next month is 39 years for us).
Feb262011PieInSky021.jpg

and the pie... we got ours to go (she also loves peanut butter)
Feb262011PieInSky019.jpg

We "flower sniffed" on the way home, stopping by the old Baylor Female College ruins.
Feb262011PieInSky008.jpg

and then it started to rain not too far from home. Got back to the house about 5:30pm. all in all a very nice day.

I know there is a wineberry connie in there somewhere but I cant find it, paging mbrew,

I posted above. We got 442 Miles on her yesterday. I'm real bad about pictures, but Chuck got some. Maybe he'll post them. Beth did better on the ride than I did, which is a real good thing. I like that Corbin for the shorter haul, but it may be a bit hard for the long haul. We'll have to see how it goes. Having a windshield and luggage was great!

That's a good ride, the stock connie seats are nice, lots of padding and good looking 94 up, glad everyone had a safe trip.

Just a few photos that are not the same as already posted.

Susan (tortuga) and I stopped in Grandview to switch GPS batteries and put on sunglasses. That was fuitless because 10 minutes later we hit the cloud bank that would last the rest of the day.

Marty (voyagerrider) and Kathy (ladyrider) made a surprise visit - they keep getting jinxed by saying they were going to make it only to back out. So they said nuthin' and just showed up!

d70_8996cq.jpg

I think I got the real Tony (Hemibee) this time, instead of that imposter, Jack :lol2:

Bambi won the TWT banner. Husband Phil (pkiser) is on the right.

It was nice enough to eat outside.

Thanks Chuck, Sherry loves the picture of us you took & posted.

Looks like you guys had a great time. Sorry we missed it. I got some very bad news on Friday so it took out our weekend plans. We'll be missing the next one also because we'll be coming back from Spring Break vacation in ARKANSAS! :sun:

$8 for a meal and $5 for a slice of pie
So, what did I get for lunch? The sampler a la mode for $9:
Strawberry Rhubarb, Mississippi Mud, Chocolate Peanut Butter, & Southern Pecan
...Quite filling, and ever so economical (relatively) in these hard times.;-)

Ladyrider and I made it home safely on Sunday after about 700 miles on the bikes for the weekend.

Here is our tale of the ride.

We rode from Burleson at about 6:30 AM on Saturday only stopping for a quick breakfast at a donut shop (breakfast of champions) in Ennis and a couple of fuel stops. We took the fast route to Conroe.
I-35 south to 67
67 to 287 at Midlothian
287 to I-45 in Ennis
I-45 south to Conroe.

We saw this guy along the way

We pulled into Pie in the Sky abit after 11, and lots of folks already there.
Some of the bikes.

Inside standing in line to place our order with lots of other folks, the service was fanstastic. They got everyone served in no time at all.

Standing in line with Pie Man as he checks the menu

100_5065-1.jpg

Our choice was Pecan Cobbler al la Mode, mmmhhhh good!

100_5066-1.jpg

Back outside we saw this had pulled in.

Got a shot of this beautiful Triumph Trident

100_5062-1.jpg

After visiting for a bit Kathy and I rode on south to Bay City to see her Mother. We ran through problably 75 or 100 miles of mist, but never any rain.
We went by the nursing home where Kathy's Mom is and visited for a bit. We got a room at the new Comfort Inn & Suites went to dinner at a new resturant that has opened in Bay City. We had excellent shrimp(sorry no pics), and were done for the night.

Next day we were on the road by 9:30 after having a excellent complinmentary hot breakfast at the hotel. We stopped in Wharton to take this picture of this mural on a building across from the Courthouse (we already have a pic of the courthouse in our collection)

100_5069-1.jpg

We stopped to find a geo-cache at this location on a county road west of Wortham

100_5070-1.jpg

This was such a peaceful area with such great views I can see why he wanted to be buried here.

Finally when we made it into Hubbard we set the GPS for home. Took 171 straight into Hillsboro then I-35 for home. We made it around 5 PM.

I don't have the exact mileage but I know it is somewhere around 700 for the 2 days. We enjoyed seeing everyone at the Pie Run and will do our best to make more. As Chuck said seems like when we plan on going and post it on the forum we don't make it. So we will make it last minute plan and just show up from now on. I have to give to my lovely trip planner, Kathy (ladyrider), credit. She put together a beautiful ride and even took me on some roads I had never been on before.

Great weekend!!

Earlier this month I told Kim I was keeping the 26th open so I could attend the Pie Run. I made sure I didn’t have any ballgames scheduled that would interfere with my ride and had everything all set except for a route. A few nights ago I was looking at the map to find a good route when she asked me where we were meeting. Well after the laughter died down due to her trying to figure out why I needed a map to ride 16 miles round trip I talked her into meeting me there for her first Pie Run.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to ride very far due to some aches and pains in my knees. I had umpired two double headers on Thursday and Friday and they were taking a toll on this old body. I knew I could make the 16 mile round trip, just not sure if I could do any more, but I was feeling better when I rolled out of bed Saturday morning.

So here’s a few photos from the Pie Run.

I may be wrong but I believe this is a 1973
1000104.jpg

I think the odometer showed 759 miles on it?

I’ve always liked this bike

Of course there were a few Triumphs in attendance

The ride home would be a romp thru the forest with these two outlaws
1000115i.jpg

After a run up thru the forest, I broke off from our three bike group and headed toward Huntsville to grab a few of the up coming FM Signs.

This sign was telling the truth but it would have been more truthful if it had said EXTREMELY Loose Gravel. The sign was posted after I turned on the road and had already hit the loose gravel. I felt like I was on a Speedway Bike half way thru the intersection. Talk about pucker factor! :eek2:
1000172.jpg

Another stock pile of the loose stuff they are getting ready to put on the highway, glad I was there before they put it down.
1000173yf.jpg

And the final FM Sign for the day and the one I was really after…
1000177s.jpg

The ride home was in a light drizzle for about 40 miles, it actually started just before I took the first photo of the FM 2620 sign. Pulled into the garage with an additional 115 miles on the clock, not bad for a 16 mile round trip from my house to Pie In The Sky.
