Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

Re: Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

Someone at our table counted 38 plus 5 that arrived early and left early to make an event in Oklahoma. At least 2 were a bit late. ;-)

I thought it was a great turnout & I thought the food and service was very good (However, I am easily pleased food-wise  )

I have a few pictures - will post later.

James (one wolf) took us to a cool historical/museaum location just behind the courthouse in palo Pinto. I was expecting one old building but they had several buildings, including the old jail, and many old items on display. Very nice.

Just 226 miles but some great roads thanks to Leon's (focus frenzy) route. :thumb:

But the best thing of the day - Leon rode his '83 Zuk! :rider:

MBrew & Bbrew are home with 231 miles on the Connie. A little warm towards the end, but overall a beautiful day for a ride.

Re: Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

363 miles round trip and 98 degrees on the display when I arrived home. I saw a low of 51 degrees on the way up.

You can't post on this thread - you cancelled! :nana:

I did see Jeff (jhansen) taking some food/pie pictures - he had a long ride home but will probably post up the pictures.

Me, I never remember to take a picture when the food arrives, I am too busy locating the eatin' utensils! :-P

Re: Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

A great day even if I had to detour through Everman for a couple of hours of work on the way to Thurber.

Thanks to the Burgman contingent for sharing lunch with me.

Chuck, Mbrew, Shooter, Focus enjoyed the short shot up FM4. Let's do it all again.

OH...& ....I'm home.......about 4:30 or so.....It did get a little warm ish.
We had a great ride..comin & goin...Took mostly superslab on the way up (FMs!)
..Then I wound the guys around on some of the really cool county pavement on the way back south.(CR156,Paluxy Rd,Loftin Rd,Bakers Crossing,Edwards... + CR2008,2009...etc.
We did lose 3 riders at TX108 & FM1188 (Agman,Rman & I forget on the Ninja...sorry) but the remaining 6 stayed intact until CR1007 just north of Glen Rose where Dahveed peeled off for Benbrook. Mudclod,Clark & Curtis hung in there until Walnut Springs....then it was just RZ500rich & I the rest of the way in. I didn't take any pics but I kno plenty of other folks did...Spect we'll see 'em soon. IT WAS A FUN DAY...FER SURE

....& Art....Thanx again for your Butler THC map purchase.

Made it back to Houston about 6:30, 572 miles according to Google Maps. Would post map but can't figure out how (IT challenged LOL). Personal high mileage for one day. Great ride, superb weather, outstanding food.

What a great turnout! Thanks to Mr2mch for a great ride today.

Re: Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

I enjoyed the meet up in Thurber and I meet a few folks I had not met before. I too though both the food and service was good. I don't think my coffee cup ever got more than 1/2 empty before someone came around and refilled it. I was especially happy to find they had buttermilk pie on the list and of course I had to have a piece to top off my lunch. Forgot my camera so no pictures.

I made it back to Terrell at 6:45. Our Burgman group made a loop out west looking for some roads we've never ridden before. Found a few, some that were actually a little entertaining if not exactly technically demanding. GPS said I went 430.2 miles :rider:.

Went out for Mexican fast food. Came home. Went out to pick up take-out Chinese. Came home. Approximately 15 miles.

It was a delightful day, again. I think this pie stop is a keeper.

Made it home about 10 minutes ago. The day went from "crap, I didn't wear enough clothes" early this morning to"I've got too many clothes on" this afternoon. Such is riding in Texas.

Once again, a good time was had, two more courthouses, and 603 total miles for the day. Pics tomorrow. I need a shower.

17 hours out on the bike and 603 miles. Breakfast in Valley Mills, lunch in Thurber, supper in Cameron. All in all a great day.

Re: Pie Run IX: A Bit West and "Smokin'!" at the Smokestack in Thurber, 9/24

Dang, all that riding yesterday (1,109 miles) and I forgot to stop to eat a piece of pie. Glad you all had a good time. Sounds like the restaurant will be a future favorite.
