Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. The trip was a blast, and I made it back safely this afternoon. First motorcycle trip in over 15 years. 1320 miles over 3 days. Lazy riding, scenic riding, and some hard miles.
A couple recommendations:
The TruCountry Inn in Brady is a trip. Definitely recommend staying there for a unique experience. Perfect for a bike trip and the perfect jumping off spot for my next recommendation. Sunrise at the Regency Bridge. Pack a breakfast and enjoy it. 500, 580, and 501 are all good motorcycle roads. Stonehenge in Ingram was nifty, but 39 down to Vanderpool is the gem. I don’t know that I would necessarily recommend riding from Uvalde through Pearsall and George West to Goliad, but if you do, get behind an oilfield truck and let them run blocker for you. The deer are everywhere and it is nerve racking to keep and eye out for them. Lot of good new blacktop though, so the ride is smooth.
