i have an old kz1000, she's a chopper. i know, a nice stock old kz is solid good these days, i bought her like this.

she's actually a rat-as-**** construction, the more you look, the more you groan and laugh... but she still has a ton of rat bike charm, so...

at any rate, i need advice on wiring her. she's as basic as basic can be, but i know pretty much nothing about her electrics.

all she has is headlight and tail / brake light.

when i got her, she was in one piece, just a thousand years old and a lot of that was just sitting, so the wiring was super weathered, dry rotted. but it ran.

did i take pictures or draw a freakin schematic before i yanked it all off? of course not, that'd require an i.q. somewhat larger than my shoe size.

but, eventually i figured it out, apparently, because i was able to sport her around town a bit (read, bar hop, where too few even knew what she was to properly honor the representation of the past that she is.)

came back to tejas for life reasons, she sat untended for awhile. finally went to mess with her, battery rightfully dead. ok, pull ghe batt for a new one.

life can be a real sadistic ***** sometimes. took forever to get a battery, snd by then i'd forgotten the what goes where to the battery. thought i had it guessed, she fired up fine and ran, but was stone cold dead the next morning. life had been... busy... so only now can i even mess with her again.

gotta clean her up some, get a batt snd start over. so here's the question:

i have (apparently) a regulator / rectifier all in one unit, no igniter. and she runs with yhis only. i need to know which wires coming out of the regulator go to what.

i have a standard three way key switch, ign / battery/ acc, a momentary start button and of course the starter relay.

i can figure out the lighting again, but refresh me on the tail / brake operation theory, i had (a great guy, but can't babysit me) tell me the tail and brake operation is a little different than maybe standard (like i'm used to with us bikes.)

thanks in advance, i'll get pics up as i go along. she’s for sale, too, if there's any testosterone heavy guys out there that want to go the 12 rounds with tyson, complete with getting your ear bitten off that riding her is like... but, oh, that kz 1000 grin... !!!!

All I can help you with is a Z1 900 shop manual that has a wiring diagram.

thanks, i have a manual,, and second manual. what i don't have is an understanding of what goes where and why from the rectifier. had a mobile guy come over, was super helpful but i really just wasn't ready for him,

i need to yank the igniter back out (i only got one because the manual said it was required, but whoever built this proved different, its been running fine in this configuration for decades.)

need to clean up all the wiring, it's all very nicely done, high end wire, good shrink tubing, really nice terminals and all soldered (by me) and isolate just the rectifier leads... it's **** tight in that tiny assed box!

ooh good luck! I loved my KZ albeit original. I feel your pain as I'm trying to resurrect a Triumph that suffered worse but similar fate.
