Going to buy my V Strom back after regretting it for a couple of years.

This 94 is the "first gen" DR650 which means its more closely related to the DR600 and 350. In 1996 they changed to the current DR that is still on sale today. The bikes look nearly identical but almost nothng from the later bikes fits the early bikes. I just want you to know that going in.

There is nothing wrong with the early bikes. In fact they are rumored to make a little more power and run smoother than the later ones. I can attest that this one has plenty of get-up-and-go and runs extremely well. It is pretty much stock. The PO cut the lid out of the airbox so I rejetted it and put a new carb slide in amd it runs fantastic now. There is ONE nagging problem which isn't the bikes fault, but I haven't really tried to fix. If you are travelling at highway speeds and theres a strong wind from either 10 or 2 o'clock the bike will bog. I'm pretty sure the strong wind is getting trapped under the tank and applying lots of pressure on the airbox which is maybe causing it ti go lean or its messing with the CV carbs' vacuum. I don't know, but I always meant to find an uncut airbox to see if that would fix it. When it happens you can drop to idle or got fill throttle and it runs just fine. It really is dependent on having a strong headwind which is just off of 12 o'clock.

Stock exhaust still works. Headpipe is a little rusty and worn, but still solid. The muffler seems solid. I put new fork seals and 7.5w oil in it about 3 months ago. I raised the oil level 10mm to increase the airspring preload. I run about 300 pounds and its very comfortable for me. No bottoming, but I don't really ride off road. Bike has a street rear tire on it and an old Shinko 705 front. Both still good. I had to buy what was available in town to get it inspected which is why it has the street tire. Bike has a bar riser (1.5" up, 1" forward I think) and a Tusk handlebar. Bike also has a Harbor Freight knockoff peli case bolted to the rear rack. I also added a small usb outlet to charge my phone. Valves were adjusted when I got it almost two years ago.

This bike is extremely reliable. Runs, handles, stops, and wheelies very well. I run regular gas with a splash of stabil in it all the time. Bike has a manual petcock and if I know its going to sit for a couple of weeks I'll run it out of gas. Never fails to start right up again.

Asking 2800. Located in College Station.

This is an old pic. I will get some more soon and show more details. This bike is a beautiful survivor of the Rad era!

Went up the road a piece and took some currrent pics and video. I didn't wash it or anything. The scuzz around the left fork leg is from a couple months ago. I have replaced both fork seals when that one leaked. I don't think the new one is leaking. I think that's old dribbles still coming out of the gaitor.

Bar and Riser
Custom Shorty lever! lol
Beautiful rust-free steel tank!
No Leaks!
Older Shinko, New Dunlop
Junk in the trunk

Easy start.

Runs great!

Still available!
Interested party wants a post-96 bike. Not a big deal, this just isn't the bike for him.

I'll say this. I haven't had any problem locating stock parts for this bike. It also hasn't needed much of anything. Aftermarket parts are where you come up short. Things like bash plates, footpeg relocators, different seats, tanks, etc. There's practically nothing available from the aftermarket. But, handlebars, grips, tires, etc, are all standard stuff. Easy to get.

Added lots of images and video to the original post. Any questions just ask!

Sold! Harrison came from Louisiana to pick up his first bike. I'm a little nervous, but he seems like a responsible young man, amd I pushed the MSF course on him pretty hard.
