Looking to sell my 2005 BMW R1200RT with 41,900 miles.
It is in very good condition and runs great.
Everything works on it except the fuel gauge which is common on these bikes. It has been repaired but failed again.
I just use the odometer to keep track between fillups.
Heated seats and grips.
Bar risers, battery tender, driver backrest, driver peg lowering kit, and aftermarket exhaust on bike. Michelin tires are in great shape and have approximately 1500 miles.
Has a scratch on the front fender and on the side cases. It has not been down and the nicks on the cases are from handling on the shelf.
Has the radio package and CD player with both working great. Everything else works as it should from the factory.
Installed a new Odessey battery last month. Highway pegs do not come with bike.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to look at the bike.
Clean Texas title in my name

that's a great price on an RT. Those pesky fuel strips work about 2-3 years I think then fail. I guess that's what happened on my 2009 RT as well.

Yes, it was replaced 6/2020 and failed again.

I purchased this bike earlier this year and have decided to buy a newer RT or GSA.

I have a lot of service records for the bike.

The clutch was replaced at Gulf Coast BMW 6/2020 at 40,335 miles so it has very few miles on it.

Greetings Jerry. The bike looks to be well cared for. Can you provide some info about the service/maintenance records on big expense items that plague some owners of this model, like...ESA system, ABS brakes, and final drive? You can PM me if that's easier for you. Thanks

The brakes were flushed at 37392 miles along with the V-Belt replacement at Gulf Coast BMW
The clutch plate, pressure plate, etc were replaced in 2020 at 40335 miles at Gulf Coast BMW
The fuel level sensor was replaced at the same time but is no longer working
The tires were also replaced at GC BMW on 9/24/20
Valves were checked at GC BMW at 40891 miles

Rear wheel flange recall was done at GC BMW on 2/26/16 at 37426 miles

I don't have any records prior to 2016

Final drive is solid and no issues with the ABS

I may just talk myself into keeping the bike

You won't be able to replace that bike for what your selling it for and besides you know that one inside and out...
Thats true, he wont, but he has his eye on something different. You know how that goes. Theres always pressure to manage resources from ones significant other, and often parking space concerns. For 20 years id have 8 bikes in the garage. Now wifey gets on me over two. Fortunately no one has wanted the nicest R1200gsa LC in Texas, so i get to keep it for awhile longer. Im just fine with that ;-). I rode it an hour ago, and its so different than my RT im amazed. You really need both.

I have 6 bikes and fully understand the problem.. I have a Suzuki Titan T-500 and a Yamaha SR500 up for sale to fund another bike I want, Its a struggle that is real

I always thought you could get by with just the GS but it's best to have both options.

Ill respond in this thread as Jerry is looking at both LC models. The gsa has a heavier flywheel, differrnt gearing, and id imagine different cams. It sure feels like it anyway, and it has a different final drive ratio i suspect. You can really short shift it, even below say 3krpm. The RT is way taller geared. A taller/wider vstream or equivalent windshield buys more protection, but still not what the rt has. Fuel economy is about 15% better on the RT if you are not running 80mph plus. The RT hits you with a bit more engine heat for some reason, or at least im noticing it on these hot mornings riding the RT. I wish i could compare engine temps between the twp bikes, as it could be a thermostat difference. Not an issue though, neither is uncomfortable or gets close to overheating. Also, steering and uturns in the middle of a two line FM road are easier on the gsa at slow speeds. If you tip over an RT, you will need to sell some stock to pay for the plastics, if you like your bikes perfect as i do. On the gsa, just pick it up and carry on. Anyway, ues, i agree one could live happily everafter with any r1200gsa from 2007 onward. If i did not have arthritis id keep my gsa, and not have bought the rt.

If you lived in Texas I would like to buy another SR500 I sold mine and regret it. At my age kick starting a big single is a struggle so probably best to stay with electric start.
I hope you get what you want. Curious what bike you want but only if you want to post.
Thanks

Its such a cool bike and I have a extra motor and a bunch of period correct hop up parts. I decided to get it running and ordered a carb kit from Germany as it was the one that had the rubber goods as well as the jets. I'm having a guy that is a good mechanic get it up and running after sitting for years and when he has it set up... I will give it the best effort to kick it over and ride it. If I can't my son's will be all over it, the like when I fix things and then they get them...LOL
