I really hate this, I still have to do couple months of rehab on my shoulder and there is no way I can be ready for this ride. Maybe this is the year I get to ride TAR?

Chris, is a 1981 SR500H a Yamaha, single cylinder?

Registration sent! Perfect ride to break up winter here in OK.

Unfortunately my usual travel/riding buddy OKDQ (Duane) can't make the Big Bend ride this year. So, I'll have some room in the truck on my way down to Big Bend.

I'd be willing to pick someone up on the way. Playing around with mapquest a little it looks like I could pick someone up in the Wichita Falls area, west Fort Worth area (Mineral Wells???), Abilene, Midland/Odessa, or San Angelo. I'll be driving a Supercrew PU of some sort so could probably even pick up a couple people if necessary. I might drag a small trailer if needed. Ultimately I'm flexible and would rather not make the entire 12 or 13 hr drive by myself.

I'll likely be staying at the Lajitas resort and will also be looking for a bunkmate (preferably no snoring:lol2:).

I'm probably gonna drive down to Big Bend on Feb, 28 (Tues.), ride for 4 days, then return on Mar 4 (Sun.).

Can't wait. Have a lot more riding to do in BBRSP. If you haven't ridden there yet it's a must do. Much better than BBNP IMO. :rider:

Couldn't find a way to edit my previous post. Sorry.

Just wanted to say if you are looking for a ride don't be put off by my screen name Oilfieldtrash. Am I as sophisticated as a Texan? NO. But, I'm not too bad for an Okie.;-)

I would really like to ride Peguis Canyon with someone that knew the area.
I have been on some Mexican dirt roads around the Canyon area about 26 years ago on a SP 600 , Way cool riding, the dirt roads went on forever,,,,
Will I be an outlaw if I do not register for the rally but come ride with the
Peguis canyon gang ?????;-)
Mike

Hotel reservation. Check.
SweetE confirmed she could get time off. Check.

We are in.

Richard, will be sending registration in the coming days. :rider:

Yep, Its a thumper, basically shares the same motor as the XT and TT 500s but with electronic ignition instead of points, a larger finned head with a larger intake valve and a different carb all in a slightly hevier street bike frame. The 81 I have is my first street bike ever and being a dirt rider first and foremost it just made sense to get a dirtbike based street bike as my first.

OK OK If I can get off more than just one day to come ride with the gang I will register, Lets see I got a few weeks to get my kitchen pass and zap my Papal when I get the OK..............
Just read the Godzilla hill story, Way cool.....

If RG says it, it's gotta be true! He's without a doubt one of the good guys!

I still have an open spot in the pickup for the ride down and back and still need a bunkmate. See post #37 on page 2 for details. :rider:

Was chatting with a fellow twtexan about the rates at Lajitas resort and spa. My memories a little fuzzy on this but I was thinking someone knew someone that worked at the hotel and maybe got us a discounted rate if we were with Richard's group. Anybody remember any details on this? We could probably give the some really good business if the price were right.

I had one in ~78, at the time the XT were popular in Colombia and they brought a few SRs, had it a couple of years and sold it when I got married and came to the States...

The SR and the XT were some good engines,, I lusted after the SRX 600
and for some reason it just never caught on,, sales were a flop.....

About the $85 registration fee

Some of you may have noted that the cost of registration is quite a bit higher than in past years ($85 this year vs. $45 in year's past). I realize that is a pretty big increase so I would like to explain. In past year's your registration fee has covered the commemorative item (t-shirt or mug), banquet meal costs, banquet hall rental costs, and some money to pay those working at the rally. Well, this year we have added 3 additional meals (Thursday night dinner and 2 breakfast meals) plus we are having paid entertainment at Saturday night's banquet. To pay for the additional meals and the show on Saturday night required an increase in the cost of registration. My past rallies have shown that most riders do indeed eat breakfast and supper, so I thought it was reasonable to add the additional meals as part of registration (each meal costs about what you would pay if you ate them at one of the local restaurants).

With the closing of Kathy's cafe, we had to find a new spot for our morning coffee drinking, breakfast, and rider's meeting. The parking lot of the Starlight is ideal for a rider's meeting, but the Starlight is closed in the morning, so no coffee or breakfast. I thought it made sense to have coffee and breakfast available at our rider's meeting location and asked if they would open for us. They agreed but decided a buffet made more sense than trying to have full menu service.

Hopefully this all makes sense and won't discourage attendance. Hope to see you in Terlingua.
