I did a test ride a while back, purposely without ear plugs, and noted the same annoying thing, but figured ear plugs would mute the sound. I liked the 310GS well enough, but simply decided to keep the CRF250L for exploring county roads.

I did my 2nd ride with ear plugs and never heard the intake. 3rd ride, no plugs, sounded like a box of rocks under me. Still have under 200 miles. I bought it just before summer heat wave hit in Phoenix.
