2018 Texas Hill Country 500 - Nov 2-4, 2018

By the way, to all that were able to ride my trials bike Friday, I wanted to let you know when I was putting it away the other day, it told me it may need some therapy after all the abuse it took. It has no clue what it did wrong to be so mistreated by so many (you know who you are) LOL

Thank goodness they are designed to be abused :)

Poor Montesa. Her daddy was too trusting. Thanks Mike. I think a few trials bikes might be bought due to that evening.

I was looking forward to this ride but had to cancel early Saturday morning. Next year!

That reminds me, I spoke to a game warden at the low water crossing on CR308 on Sunday, and he wanted me to tell everyone that going around barricades that are up due to high water is an arrest, not a ticket. At least in Llano county. Ride safe, ride smart. He then proceeded to talk bikes with us :)

Glad the three of us that crossed didn't get noticed by anyone. Good rule of thumb to know in the future. FYI, it sure was a struggle getting through that second river crossing that day.

What about closed roads due to washed out cattle guards ? That took a lot of downpour for hours to cause that.

Keith, your diagonal traverse method to get across on the cattle guard would have worked. However my idea of jumping it on the strom probably was ill-considered.

Thank you to the organizers, had a great time, even with challenges-gps problems, electrical gremlins on one of bikes(only after falling in the Llano river).
Lost a red stuff sack and one "GS" glove after not zipping top bag shut. Anyone happen to pick up these items?

Is there any way to download a map of the route? or a list of the ride? The format on the link provided won't open on my computer or phone. A group of buddies are doing this ride this weekend.

Kubota Mike shows us how it's done

It was a great ride. Thanks to Mike for his generosity and to Rich for the routes. Good seeing everyone. Rosie finally got broken in with her first drop in the mud Sunday morning but all is good. Also had to make a short pitstop 35 miles from home.

The files in the first post are gps files. Open them with Garmin Basecamp (free download) and then either put them on a stand alone gps unit, or a smartphone with a gps app. Don't depend on Google Maps, as it requires a data signal, and service is pretty spotty out there.

I use OSMAnd on an Android phone and like it a lot.

Thanks Mike for the excellent hospitality! I think everyone feels the same and we all had a great time even with a few minor injuries. Look forward to it all again next year.

Last photo looks like a good ouch moment.

Kathy and her KLR took a beating, but she finished Saturday strong, and still rode home.

John went down too and lamented that no one asked if he was ok. I'm sure if he wore lipstick we might have paid him more attention.

Where did you get that Adventure Log? I couldn't find it at Revzilla.

There is a little church at the corner of 2340 and 963 south of lake victor. I keep it hidden behind the propane tank if anyone needs to borrow it.
