No we did not ride to California (3 days going west). Another inmate and I did have some really nice dual sport riding for 3 days in the areas west of San Antonio.
There were some Texas State Parks that I had never been to, Seminole Canyon and Devils River State Parks. Thought it would be a good idea to visit these and combine in some off pavement riding if possible. So to start we set up camp in an RV park just outside of Del Rio.
Day 1 - Seminole Canyon State Park and Langtry, Texas
We had an 8:30 AM start from Del Rio and headed up the highway to Seminole Canyon State Park. You have to do the tour to actually go down into the canyon. The tour started at 10 AM and was about a 1.5 hour hike. The ranger was very knowledgeable and this was well worth doing.
View of the canyon from the overlook.
The main attraction is a cliff overhang/cave cliff dwelling where people lived as far back as 4000 years ago. They found lots of artifacts.
Here is the recessed cave/over hang.
There are some very nice petroglyphs to see.
Seminole Canyon is well worth seeing!
We headed on up the highway a few miles and stopped in to see the law west of the Pecos.
After giving Lilly our regards we beat a path north up a fast gravel road and enjoyed the long rolling hills of the west Texas desert terrain.
After about 30 or 40 miles you drop down into a valley and find the beautiful Pecos River.
At this point we picked up a small paved ranch road and headed back to Del Rio.
