I made the mistake of riding V Lusts Tenere at Strom A Thon this past May. Now I want one. & like X Driver sez.... The engine is really nice.
I still like my Stroms.... but if ever I hav the chance...... hmmm

I was not allowed to own a motorbike while living under my parent's roof. First thing I did when I was on my own and living in a place that had a garage was buy a bike. The only shop in town was a Suzuki dealership and I picked out a shiny, new 1987 GS550L as my first bike.
I just reviewed the paperwork to see that they gave me a smokin' deal at 16% interest. I guess installing car stereos must have paid well back then.

Okay, let us continue from the '82 XV920RH which I was involved in a hit and run from behind and left in a ditch for dead. Still no memory of that one. One second , waiting at a stop sign in a gentle rain, next second, coming too in a hospital 14 miles away. Nothing broke cept the bike, but badly bent and a concussion which cause a vertigo problem for several years so no more bikes from '86 to '92.
'92 had me getting a damaged '92 KLR 650 and fixing it to ride to work and never took any pics of it that I can find. Had over 30,000 miles on it and traded it off on a '95 BMW R11GS
Which I put about 50K miles on it
Along with it I picked up a couple DR 350 SEs which I did some of the Arkansas part of the TAT with
But, found the long trip from the TAT to home a bit more than I wanted on it so that led to a 2000 KLR 650
Which I still have and ride today.
Then wanted to try a lower BMW so traded the '95 R11GS in on a '97 R11R in 2000 and rode it about the country for about 24,000 miles
But, kept banging the bottom of the engine on rocks on the back roads of the Ozarks so decided to go back to a GS , Hence, a New 2002 R1150GS
Whick I put a bit over 50K miles on in the next 5 years and all over the country.
Also bought a DRZ400SE which I was thinking of replacing the KLR with and no pics of it either but I sold it and kept the KLR. Then in '07 I wanted something different so ended up with an '07 DL1000 after selling the '02 BMW to a friend.
Only a few trips made on this bike in the 14 or so months and plus 20 K miles I put on it including a round trip to California.
Then came the '07 Suzuki Bandit which I still have today with over 75K miles on the clock.
I did get a DR650SE for awhile but it was too different from the KLR so after about a year, it went. A pic of it along with the Bandit.
Now , at 72 years young, staying with just my two favorites The '07 1250S Bandit and the '00 KLR 650.

I've owned 150+ bikes over the many years of riding, racing, and rebuilding. This was my first project bike, and my second street bike. A 1986 Interceptor 500. Bought the chassis for $200 in 1990, a motor in 1991. Eventually painted it white and rode it for a couple of years as primary transportation during college. This project led to my job at World Cycle in St. Louis and a side business rebuilding old wrecks.
Somehow, somewhere, my wife found this old photo from 1991. Ah, memories!! I rode this thing like I stole. Overrevved it enough to kill any normal bike. Replaced crank bearings even. Wish I still had it. No haircut quips please.

My parent's hated bikes, so I bought my first street bike in college, 3rd day. My son, having a bike crazy dad, fared much better, and by 17 was racing (#86) with a stable of toys to get to school and back.

Other xtras that would stop in for a visit....the Bumblebee Versys which was Triumphantly Scrambled in Mississippi. Only to find its way to AR where a Guzzi guzzled its way home with me. & then theres the Terra-part...literally....to fix an oil leak. Never let a German decide how to assemble a Sweedish bike in Italy. & never let your foggy dreams decide what bike you need. A lil Bandit will rob a fat man of his dreams. I rode it once

Here is me (third from left) with some of my friends in 1972 with my 66 Bultaco Campera 175. Picture was taken in at a cabin that some German friends had in the woods behind our house where they would come down on the weekend and we would ride the enduro trails in the national forest back then. Other bikes are Honda 150 Dream, Yahama 80, and a pair of Bultaco Matador 250s. Fun times!
