Ok it started with just a whiff of oil on the right cylinder. Head gasket leak. I ordered the parts, assuming that I could just change the head gasket, but being prepaired for whatever.
Here is the old guy who is so optometrist. The prep, the bike, valve covers removed, carb, and exhaust removed.Rocker arms off, and head removed. TO BE CONTINUED. 253633253634

Leak down test, put the spark plug in, then filled it up with kerosene to see if it leaks through. So far about an hour and still up, but I think we will lap the valves any way.253652

A friend helped lap the valves, and make sure the head was square. From the look of his trophies in the shop, I think he knows what he is doing.253782
