Post Breakfast Ride Information

If anyone is up for a post breakfast ride see the optional route map below. Groups usually take off around 10am. The route is a no host self-guided GPS ride, as the ride is self-guided join a group or lead one.

The post Adventure Breakfast rides are all about fun, camaraderie and being safe. Some groups will focus on completing the route, others will just relax and ride to their cut off time then break off and head home.

A group size of 4 - 6 ride is optimal, with about a maximum of 8, grouping by bike size or desired pace is also beneficial if possible.

Route information & Map
*Disclaimer - I build the routes on my computer using the Roads of Texas map book as my guide which is the best and most accurate I have used, but not perfect, and MotoWhere's mapping program. So the route may not be 100% accurate. I do not pre-ride the route, it's an adventure for me also. Road closures, legal status, conditions and routing of county roads can change. If in doubt, turn around and find another route - DO NOT trespass. If a landowner says you are on private property, don't argue, politely ask for directions to get back to a public road.

Distance: 269.2 miles

For those that join my group
When I lead a group I don’t stop for lunch in a restaurant, I'm in the office all week so when I'm on a ride I want to spend as much time as possible in nature. I plan a stop about midway out in the country for snacks or a sandwich I bring with me, then of course there are the planned fuel stops.

I stop at every corner without a clear / obvious direction to continue and wait for the entire group and make sure the last rider sees the proper way to go, there is NEVER a need to ride above your comfort level to keep up, we won’t leave you, I encourage riders to spread out to avoid the dust. The daisy chain method also works well, especially when its extremely dusty to keep the group even more spread out, the rider in front makes sure the rider behind makes the corner and so on until the sweep rider makes the corner. As long as the rider in front takes responsibility for the rider behind no one gets lost. However please tell someone in the group if your plans change and you decide to break off from the group, that prevents you being searched for.

Safety and rider etiquette
Having your emergency contact information on you and having that information readily available is critical. This is important not just for group rides but everyday. Even though you may have a buddy along on the ride you may get separated on the road.
At minimum:
Name
Your street
Your town, state, Zip code
Driver's license # & state
Emergency contact
Emergency Phone
I taped mine on the bottom of the visor of my dual sport helmet, I also taped another on the back side of my fairing near the dash. The important thing is that it is easy for anyone to find.

Respect landowners and other road users, slow down and ride quietly when passing, people, vehicles, animals, homes, etc.

I'm going to round up the group that went with me to OST last month and escort them all the way to Pipe Creek. And if Flaming Lodge is not able to go, I might take his 250. If he goes, then it is the ADV Vespa.

OOPPSS, forgot about a previous engagement on the 17th. So I will be with you in spirit!

This will be the last post breakfast adventure ride of the year.

There will be a December breakfast, but the ride afterward will be dirt only. So much so I'll be trailering out my 2 stroke. More info coming next month...

I'm intrigued... I've never ridden in the hill country, but may consider trailering down from Midland for an all dirt ride. I'll be watching for the December date and details.

Would you say this is all asphalt or mix dirt and asphalt?
If all asphalt I will probably switch to motard wheels and tires.
Thanks

Dan,

A mix. Unfortunately less than 50% dirt, some good dirt though, and good asphalt.

Dirt - Old School, Kyle Ranch, Wimans Creek, Bullhead, Hackberry, Lower Sabinal, Seco Valley (some is now paved).

Asphalt - Three Sisters, 470, 1050, etc.

Like you mentioned more and more county roads are getting paved as the hill county populates.

I am getting where I hate seeing the equipment parked on these roads because I know they are there to make "improvments" such as chip seal . We better take advantage of this resource of dirt roads while there's still time.

I'll join you for breakfast but 300 miles of the dirty sisters would be a faster pace than I wish to push. Rode those roads last spring, it's a great route. I'll be riding a shorter version and investigating some of my favorite water crossings to see how they are doing after all the rains. If anyone is looking for a shorter and slower ride they are welcome to join me. - Bill

At 9 am , colder earlier , it will be 45 to 50 degrees, means heavy gloves . Will be cold early so wear cold season protection, then peel.

Sorry I was unable to make the breakfast. I was very much looking forward to meeting like minded folks. Out of town work prevented me this time. Weather looked wonderful for the get together.

Pardon me fellows, I didn’t get a chance to properly let y’all know I decided to head back to NB with Justin. Good call, got home just after sunset.

Great ride and I even got on some new dirt roads under my belt.

Man, ducking out early and I’m still just now getting home. Then again my wife called me when I was in Bandera and arranged to meet me for dinner in Bulverde, so I suppose I could have been home45 minutes ago.

That was a fun ride but I’m sore from all the sphincter-clenching moments in the water crossings. Something learned today: momentum is key to a good water crossing; also, don’t follow someone through the water until they’ve made it across, or choose your own line because if they stall or go down, you lose your momentum. I had a very difficult time keeping on two wheels and getting going again because I was following too closely behind Brian on one of those crossings and had to stop.

JUSTIN, YOU MADE A GOOD DECISION. THERE WAS A TOUGHER, ROUGHER , LONGER SECTION THAN THAT BULLHEAD CREEK ROAD. THE OTHER RIDERS LEFT ME IN THE DUST BUT I ALWAYS MAKE IT THRU EVENTUALLY. HUGE POT HOLES AND WOOPS THAT HAD TO BE CAREFULLY NEGOTIATED WITH MY LOW CLEARANCE VSTROM (DIDN'T WANT A REPLAY OF AROUND THE BEND 2018). ALL THE FILLER HAS BEEN WASHED OUT OF THESE ROADS AND NOTHING LEFT BUT RUBBLE. FUN, BUT HOW YOU SAY, HIGH PUCKER FACTOR.

It was indeed a great day! Loved to see Mark putting his brand new Ducati into the terrain it was meant for. Thanks again to Sander for putting the route together and to all of the other riders for a good time. Randy

Sander, I saw that guy selling photos on one of those sister roads. We get free pics . Yea! Thanks

I told that harley rider that we got stuck behind, "we do the sisters too, and all the roads in between".

I don't know , did you see a name on that sign he had. We went by too fast then back to the carving business at hand. If we knew you could probably Google it.

We need to do a ride ahead (as sander does with the creeks) and do some burst shots of our fellow riders next time on those roads. Will look amazing
