Cleaning out closets and came across my old photo equipment. Canon AE-1 w/ stock 50mm lens, flash and tripod. Man, that was the setup when I was a teen! I won't ever use it again, and wondered what something like this batch would be worth. Is there still a following for retro cameras? Flash has some corrosion in it, so probably doesn't work (unless it can be made to?), but battery in camera was removed before storage, and battery compartment is clean. Tripod is very sturdy, and I even have too rolls of 200 speed film that's included. What do you fellers think?

Kodachrome

Song by

Paul Simon
When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder I can think at all
And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall
Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's
A sunny day, oh yeah
I got a CANON camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away
If you took all the girls I knew when I was single
And brought 'em all together for one night
I know they'd never match my sweet imagination
And everything looks worse in black and white
Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's
A sunny day, oh yeah
I got a CANON camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Leave your boy so far from home
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome, mm-mmm
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away (okay)

That was a great camera. I had one until I went overboard in a canoe with it. :(

How bad is the corrosion?

Those older Canons aren't particularly valuable, but if they work, there are always hobbyist photographers who shoot film, especially black-and-white or Cinestill.

Canon sold more AE-1s than any other SLR in history, from any manufacturer, by an order of magnitude. Something like 5 or 6 million of them. That was great for Canon, but it means there are quite a few around.

Not a lot of corrosion really, but dropped some batteries in, and it won't fire up, so didn't try anymore. Yeah, they were VERY popular for sure, so figured it wouldn't be worth a whole lot. Ebay is full of non-working ones for parts, but not a whole lot that actually work. Oh well, I'll throw it out on Craigslist/Facebook/Ebay to see if anyone wants it. Thanks, y'all.

As a side note, there was a roll of film in the camera, so just sent it off through Walgreens to get developed. Has to be about 40 years old, so really curious to see what's on it, LOL.
Looking forward to this. It could be shot, but it could be proof of bigfoot.

I guess I should have asked if anyone on here wants this stuff? Swing by and buy me lunch, and it's yours.

I'm more the red meat type of guy, so burger every time :-P

If my 15 year old nephew had his hands on it, it'll be attempted up skirt pictures of girls on his school bus. He lived with me and when his principal called and asked me not to let Chad bring his expensive camera to school, Chad denied ever having touched it. A quick trip to Walgreens proved otherwise and Chad lost riding privileges on his 185 Suzuki for 2 months. My AE-1 had been violated.

Well, didn't quite get the lunch I had in mind, but at least got the reassurance that it will be in good hands and appreciated. The whole batch is gone, so someone else gets to enjoy it now. Thanks, y'all.

I have the same camera, with 35-70 and 70-210 zooms, from my time in the Army. Great shape, but not worth much, if anything.
