My Alaskan buddy Frostbit and his lovely wife ML are hosted my wife and for a week of Alaskan Adventure!

Frostbit came from Alaska to attended our 2012 B.U.T.T. ride. It was during this visit when Frostbit made a super generous offer to explore Alaska with him.

Our flight to Alaska, from Seattle went really well and this view from the window gave me butterflies in my stomach in anticipation of our great Adventure!

Our kind and generous host Frostbit had his trusty steeds waiting for us. My wife rode the nicely appointed WR 250 with a windshield and I rode the hopped up DRZ 400 which had a very stout motor indeed! The bikes were set up with luggage and wiring for electric vests too!

Our first encounter with Moose on our way to Hatcher Pass, not far from Frostbit's home.
AlaskaDay1Hatcher011_zps8fe04c5d.jpg

We were blessed with incredible weather for the entire trip - the light fog and mist would wisp its way through the mountains and the sun was out often! Occasionally we encountered a light and brief rain, but comfortable riding gear that could be layered on demand, which was supplemented by electric vests handled all varieties of riding conditions.

I turned all Mountain Man and now wear a coon skin cap, quit personal grooming habits and keep a throwing axe close at hand.

Here are our wonderful hosts, Chuck, ML, and Frostbit who made our Alaska Adventure possible!
I can't thank them enough for their generosity and intimate knowledge of Alaska that made our trip so extraordinary!

Chuck kindly allowed us to ride his KTM 950 - its got tons of character, handles great and remarkably light for its size.

The clouds would burn off by late afternoon, but they really add an extra dimension to the sky and have a neat effect on the lighting.

Here you get a sense of the scale of the mountain sides and the steep drop-offs!
I am riding behind my wife Sahara and feeling mighty proud of her, and so happy that we are experiencing this together on motorcycles!

Glad I can share the ride with you all!

On the fourth day of our week in Alaska, Sarah and I were generously offered the use of Frostbit's BMW F800GS to take an overnight ride on the Denali Hwy.
Of course I accepted!
google_map_denali_hwy_zpsb8afb20d.jpg

The F800GS was the perfect bike for two-up travel on the Denali Hwy because it was roomy and comfortable.
It's suspension easily soaked up the pot-holes and the tires 50/50 tires were perfect for the gravel. Also we had enough electrical power to run two electric vests and heated grips. We ran the gas tank close to its limit, at 204 miles we had about 10 miles in reserve, and we had a back-up rotopax capacity of 1 gallon.
All these photos were captured by Sahara ridding pillion.

Once we passed Glennallen, which was the half-way point of the ride we looked for lodging on Hwy 1.
Lodging was scarce, full and expensive and it was dark by then - so some mild panic set in!
We managed to find a room at Majestic Valley and had a majestic ginger bread pancake breakfast the following morning!

Overall we did about 450 miles in cool and cloudy conditions - and loved every minute of it. I could not believe how much coffee and donuts I ate after that ride.

Our last ride in Alaska was an awesome group ride to Seward, again the weather held and even though it was cloudy it never rained,
and our electric vests kept us comfortable.

It has been scientifically proven that the excess consumption of snow cones is responsible for the glacier's retreat!
snowcone2_zpsc3c09f6c.jpg

What I found most interesting was all the rock that has been ground smooth from the glacier passing over it.
All the scratches, gouges and polished edges are really beautiful.

Karma: "The belief that whatever you do comes back to you, e.g. if you do something good, something good will happen to you, and vice versa."
I might also add that with the help of some friends you can make a little karma go all the way to Alaska!
