It was very good to feel healthy enough to ride this year, to see old friends, and to make some new ones. Wish we had got to visit more. Especially enjoyed seeing Jeff and his buddies Jeff and Tom. Thanks for the steak, Jeff. Riding was very good and despite a few problems with Chris' bike, we managed to ride every day. Kind of sad its over.

I'm home too. Left Paul and Voni's place and the winds were just picking up. By the time I hit Alpine, it was wicked. I think I'm still a couple degrees off center just walking around.
 
9 hrs @ 626 miles. Winds not too bad on us this time. It helped to depart at 6:15 am.

Sad it's over for another year.

Bob, we are glad you are back home and safe. Bob S. And I saw you just get slammed by the crosswind and that blinding dust on I-35 right after you went around that big rig. It had me me all over the road in the pick-up. Glad you are back at the rally point safe and sound!

I'll second that! This was a great event. Well organized and just plan fun. Thanks to all that made this possible. Lets do it again next week.

You mean I-10. But yea, I'm home safe, but sound is questionable.

As this was my first time, it's true. All I had to do was show up and have fun. That speaks volumes to the experience these fine organizers have. :clap:

It seems like that after every event I attend in Terlingua the wind Gods decide to show me why I need to leave when I leave. Four times in a row there is a dust storm as I am leaving Terlingua in my way home. Luckly, I am trucking the bike. I think I was riding behind BemmerBob when he turned right on Hwy 67 in Alpine and the winds almost flipped him over. It was bad all the way to Abilene. Needless to say, I arrived home safe and sound too. Hope everyone else have as well.
 
We didn't get rolling from the campground until 9:13am and made a short stop at Kathy's (well compared to the day before it was). Winds were picking up as we past Paul and Voni's place. Got really bad further along. For those wondering, a Sprinter van sucks in high winds. Almost got my door ripped off at the Stripes in Alpine, but did see Solorider's group and Stingray's group there. And a brave soul on a KLR :eek2: Fortunately it became a tailwind leaving Alpine and then a rear quartering along I-10 with some direct crossing gusts. Eased by Sonora. Got past (twice actually) by a guy on a touring bike with earplugs but no helmet. Really? Protecting your hearing but not your whole head?

Finally hit the house at 7:45pm. ~985 miles round trip.
 
Made it home about 7:30 after a very leisurely morning. We saw consistent 40+ mpg readings at 75 mph on Vinny's truck heading north with the incredible tailwinds. Ran into Rusty's passenger John just out of F-burg after Rusty dropped him off but never caught the wayward Sprinter van.

Trice did you really head back to Terlingua for a coffee mug?? :eek2:

Stephanie and I rolled out of the campground seconds after Rusty, and repeated the performance at Kathy's. Rolled Stephanie off the trailer at Goliad (she'd already logged 753 miles on the bike for the trip) and she's grinding out the last 150 back to Houston as I type - so she'll end up just over 900! I did 330 or so on the bike, and when I got home just after ten tonight, the Nuvi showed 1162 miles. I think I owe the PowerWagon an oilchange, and after running Black Gap, I suspect the KLR deserves the same! At 353 miles, my TKC80 is WELL broken in. Thanks to Roger and the organizers, and it was great seeing old friends and making new ones. See y'all on the trail!
 
Returned via Marathon on 90' but missed a turn in the park, which ment 40 extra miles in the park... Got home at 8:30 and did not have any wind issues.

Thank you to Richard, Connie and Uncle for a very well organized event.

Really enjoyed the ride and seeing friends and meeting new ones. And a special recognition to Rusty aka Woodbutcher for a fantastic Big B tour, complemented by a Geology 101 class from Joel.
 
Thank you Richard, Connie and Uncle for the best 1500 mile weekend I've had in a long time. Maybe ever.

We passed by Kathy's around 8am and rolled into the driveway at 5:45pm having enjoyed Cooper's BBQ in Junction. 567 miles. Some wind but not bad on a 900 lb Harley. At least it's good for that. :lol2: Look forward to gittin' dirty next time.

Bato: I don't think I could've made that ride on your bike. You are El Hombre!
 
Spending the winter in and out of here it was a surprise for us... meaning Spirirt and I. Andrew and Stepahnie, "Thank You" for the Hospitality as I also feel I owe you the dinner.

It always amazes me that a mental readjustment is required when returning from the Big Bend. There is a rubicon that is crossed, both going out and coming home.

The stars at night, are big and bright.

A big thanks to Richard, Connie, Roger and all the fine folks that made this happen again. :clap::clap::clap: It was great seeing old friends again and putting a face to new friends. Hope to see everyone again next year.

I was on River Road near Presidio when the winds kicked in.
Even the Alter Servers were blown away by it. The dust was bad.

I headed up US 67 from Presidio to Hwy 17. Between Mafa and Fort Davis I had tumbleweeds chasing me the whole time. Some big and some small. I was going 70 and they weren't much slower. After Mcdonald Observatory I had a very nice ride on Hwy 118 toward Van Horn then the temperature dropped in the 50s and the winds changed directions. I headed into New Mexico (because I could :rider:), and as I got back into Texas we were detoured due to the huge grass fires that were raging across I 20 near Big Springs and it happened again near Colorodo City Tx. I ended up getting home at 1:30 this morning.

40mph Cross Winds, Swerving Trucks & Vans, Dust, Homicidal Tumbleweeds, Smoke, Fire, and Light Rain made for quite an adventure yesterday.

My thanks to EVERYONE both Involved and Participating.
A special thanks out to Paul and Voni for their hospitalities.

922.6, to be exact :trust: + infinity on what folks have conveyed so far about Richard, Connie & Uncle. Without them, we'd be like Moses...still wandering the desert; lost & hungry.

Even though the toughest dirt I rode this past week was the driveway at Chinati Hot Springs, I improved my overall skills with the extended time on the bike.

Thanks to "the guys" for the escort into/out of Mexico. It was a blast :rider: I am looking forward to more desert riding time and may even get Andrew to head back sooner than later.

See y'all next year if not before!
