AUSTIN: Austin TARA: Monthly ride

Thanks for the invite, JT. I need to think on it a bit.

Which direction will you be running this route?

TrailBoss noticed that my track had an error. I had missed Jack Rabbit Rd. Here is a fresh version with that error corrected. And a separate trackfile for the CR 105 bypass around the sand.

It's looking like a high of 102-103 Saturday.

Little too warm for me. Hate to miss it, but I'm gonna pass.

I am doing a modified version of Webnel's Fredricksburg to Mason loop July 4. Everyone is welcome to join. One modification to Mikes track is to include Castell for a lunch stop. Also a detour to include Keyserville Rd to pay homage to the sand gods. Probably about 60% dirt. We'll meet and park at the Fredricksburg Walmart, Be ready to ride at 9AM, I will be.

Did I really post that this track would be 60% dirt? Upon further review, I think 40% dirt would be wishful thinking. Probably more like 30-35%. Sometimes it seems like TXDOT is paving the dirt faster than I can ride it. Oh well there will be some great skinny roads, too.

Please post up if you are planning to join in.

Hello, I am joining the dirty ride on Saturday and looking forward to it. I'll be +1 (but not 2 up).

JT i think you got it right it about 35% dust/sandy dirt + some water crossing, there is a longer part if I remember but you get a brake of asphalt. Everyone should bring water, electrolytes (coconut water/gatoraid or what ever you like) it going to be pretty hot after 5h or riding. Looking forward for the ride and eat some BBQ in Castell.

I won’t have the time to do the full day so I’ll stick to the schedule TARA ride for a quick ride.

Fourth Fun Ride JT, Sorry I couldn't finish the all route with Touratech Case bend open and the Exhaust bracket rubbing the rear tire after I drop the bike.
I split up with James near Mason I think on the 71 back to Austin reaching some 104F. I hope every body made it okay.

Nice to be out with this all ($#it) in place, I know I couldn’t finish the track and it all good. Here is some scab photo from the bike,

Glad you are okay, Simón. That was more gnarly than you appeared afterwards. If you're like me, it will hurt later.

Here's a snap shot from the mud pit:

Ouch, glad you're okay! What's the story?

Hi Ocho,
here's the detail,
I have learn form this one, I was going little to fast the rear brake couldn't do the job for 90 degree curve on 500 lbs bike (sand/gravel/redgranite) I saw the rancher fence in front of me that would have made me into a slice potato chip. So the I must have reach out the front a little the drop my 500lbs bike, At this point I was air born I remember leaving the hand from the grip to experience the full effect. At this point the bike was behind and my legs was trying keep up with the ground that was going a little to fast then this turn into a roll over. The touratech trunk was all over the KTM was behind. James help me out picking up stuff then I notice that the bike had a lot more then (plastic & damage) then my Fourth of July performance.

Everything is good. the gear a little damage & a little on the bike but it all good.

Done with touratech I am not impress, I only crash once and noting can salvage from this (investment) to much money for what it is. I am going to use duffle bag.

Simon

Doggone it was hot. Glad you are ok Simon. Mark and I did finish the track. I do believe we need to explore a little more of the area north of 71. Maybe next time I'll trailer to Castell to avoid some of the pavement. Thanks to everyone for coming out.
