Will BMW replace the Scrambler and Urban GS with a new R12 GS? Maybe...

What's old is new again ?

In the mid 2000's I fell absolutely in love with the HP2 Enduro and came "this close" to buying one.

Big-jug boxer goodness, without all the bulk of a GS ? 😍

Problem is, they were waaaay over-priced.

Very easy to love! Never seen one in person and pretty sure still over priced!

I remember the old days, when people would ask Bimmer riders, "don't you scrape the heads when you turn sharply?"

If you scrape he heads on that one, you have crashed.
No doubt with this one!

If you buy one, you need to buy another. Good luck with spare parts. Same goes for their dirt bike, the G450X.

"The new BMW R 12 GS is expected in spring 2025" is directly taken from an article from Motorrad:

That handlebar is WIDE

Some data from Motorrad Online:

Air-oiled boxer engine with 1,170 cubic meters and 109 hp

Accordingly, the BMW R 12 G/S gets the air-oil-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine with 1,170 cubic meters and double overhead camshafts (dohc), with the same Euro 5+ tuning as the R 12 nineT. So with 109 hp peak power, 115 Nm maximum torque and 6-speed gearbox. Allegedly 210 km/h top speed, which should be fast enough for a retro enduro.

229 kilograms lightweight retro enduro

Especially since the BMW R 12 G/S is probably relatively light for a 1200 boxer enduro with cardan. 229 kilograms have been leaked in advance as weight, ready to drive with basic equipment and a 90 percent filled 15.5-liter gasoline tank.

21-inch front wheel and long suspension travel

A real, i.e. fully off-road Enduro is the new BMW R 12 G/S with its 21-inch front wheel. The rear wheel format is still unclear, either 17 or 18 inches. In any case, typical BMW, tubeless cross-spoke wheels are to be expected. Upside-down fork and Paralever single-arm swingarm with central strut are probably designed for at least 200 millimeters of suspension travel at the front and rear. According to reports, this results in 860 millimeters of seat height.

Here is the 2012 Triple Black camhead I finished rescuing/restoring yesterday from roughly 7 years of non use. Its beautiful again, albeit with a bit of corrosion on bolts from sitting around in a garage near the coast. I have about 27 hours into detailing and servicing it. I love these engines. I did it to help out a long time riding buddy in CO, who will come and ride it home early May.

4 gal tank, light on at 150 miles so less than 200 mile to empty in the real world.

Even worse there is no bumble bee option, heathens.

Was thinking of you BMW guys a little while ago. Was returning from Lake Charles, LA on I-10 heading west and was passed by four of the big adv types loaded to the gills, apparently on a trip. They were all listing badly and fighting severe gusts in the very bad winds we are having. They were obviously capable riders and spaced appropriately, when a bad gust hit they were walking all over their lane. No doubt they will be worn out when they reach the destination. Be safe!

Thats a cool bike, and a big Nod to BMW to again honoring the heritage bikes everyone loves. While not as off road performance oriented as the HP2 still a neat, simplified boxer being oil and air cooled.

Priced good as long as you do not check all of the boxes.
