Mancuso southwest has one on their showroom floor. For some reason it seemed very small. I did not sit on it but it may have seemed small because I was looking at their collection of lot rot Multistrada V4's

An "Adventure Bike" you cannot get wet is Not Cool, at all.

More stress-testing is needed on this phenomena.
Early word from shop is alternator.
"Ty well, that ride sent a brand new BMW to the shop for a melted alternator, another BMW ingested water, someone lost a $500 pair of RX glasses, a BMW tow truck pick up from Shiro, a 2 up trip on the Ibex back to the woodlands to get a truck, a trailer rental at Lowe’s to pick up 2 dead bikes, and most likely a Transalp throttle assembly. Fun was costly today. "

I'm a huge proponent of Open-Source Software (typing this on Debian 12 right now).
My main concern about buying an R12 G/S is actually the bike's nasty propriety software.
I need to research if it's been cracked.
Looks like a updated version of my old Airhead GS.
Is your friend's bike at BMW Motorcycle of Woodlands? I saw one over there today that was in for servicing.

I looked into ordering an R12 G/S today. I was told it would take 8 to 10 months. Wow! I don't keep bikes that long so I'm sure I can commit to this much wait time. 
But... what a bike!
So I am not interested in the quick shifter which means I have to forego cruise control and heated grips. How much would it hurt the resale value if I skip these options?

nice way to mess up a bunch of bikes not made for this much water! Take a brand new BMW street bike through it? What could go wrong?

If you really one a R12 G/S there are dealers that have inbound bikes that are not spoken for. Max BMW in the northeast has 4 dealers and they get one or two a week, they sit for about 72 hrs then sold!
BMW has really done the homework on this bike and it will pay off. Great marketing and bike will get Airhead to modern bike guys excited.
I wanted one without options. I've looked around. No dealer has one like that.
I was in Berlin for work a couple of weeks ago and took one morning to go see the BMW motorcycle factory there. They had a display of the the new 1200G/S next to a mint R80G/S. Really good looking bike. So is the 1200
