My first BMW. Gonna be doing my own service. Apparently I'm gonna be having to reset the aforementioned service indicator light. If anyone has the equipment to do this in the DFW AREA. Please let me know if you could help me out. Will definitely buy your breakfast 😋. Thanks

So a little information. The GS911 tools used to do this comes with ten vin numbers to use on ten different BMW motorcycles . This is what they call the enthusiast who owns multiple BMS's over a course of years. That said owners with this set up are not likely to use one of their spare vin number slots for someone.

Good news is your local BMW club / chapter or whatever they call themselves keep one on hand with a Pro license ( unlimited vin's ) and bring it along to ride functions so the group can reset service lights. They may ask for a small donation towards paying the yearly subscription to the pro license.

Now if either of you find your way down south I have a 911 tool with pro license I pay 100 bucks every year to carry. I can also re code the heated grips to have six useful settings vs the 3 it comes with = cold , luke warm , burn your hands lol.

After owning a GS911 tool its something to not be without, but do your homework as if you select certain relearn functions you can render your BMW to a no start or run situation. There have been a few BMW's at the dealer getting their ECU's reloaded after a mistake.

I did this on my Triumph 1200XCX by accident , but lucky me it defaulted the bike to a base model . It removed cruise control , and ride modes.
Took my dealer 4 hours of reloading the systems software . I was there in the shop the entire time with my connections to multiple service depts in the Houston area.

Basically never select reset ECU or IMU ! There are options like relearn parameters.

Also if you get a 911 tool you will need to connect the bike to a battery charger while doing any service / coding functions Unless you have a Shori battery . The normal AGM batteries drop below the 911 / ECU functions to quickly ,and it kicks you out of service mode.

Also may invest in BMW RSD manual if you can still get them

When this service light comes on. Is it gonna be really intrusive or will it be to the side where I can still ride it till I get it cleared

On the side , but every start up it will pop up full display. Acknowledge it with wonder wheel

If you have an Android phone and a $30 OBDII Bluetooth interface, you can clear and reset the code with an app called MotoScan. The app only runs on Android not on iPhone.

I don't mind doing it for you, but I'm kinda booked until late next week.

Say man that sounds great. I have couple hundred miles to go before I do first service. I'll Holler at ya then. We can hook up and I'll get some breakfast. Thanks. Looking forward to meeting someone close with this Beast. Lol.

The BT adapter is more than $30.
Only 3 that I know of that work 100% with Motoscan are the OBDLink LX ($90), OBDLink MX+ ($140), and UniCarScan BT UCSI-2000 ($80). There may be others, but full function is not guaranteed. These OBD adapters do go on sale during the upcoming Prime days for $20-30 cheaper than normal.
The Motoscan app is "free" but to do anything, you need to upgrade it. You need at least the "Pro" version ($30) to reset the service light, and the "Ultimate" ($50) allows you to adjust the interval and do pretty much everything the GS911 does (without the restriction of how many bikes you can do).
You may also need the round to standard OBD adapter cable (~$15).

I have Motoscan Ultimate and an OBDLink MX+ (I got the MX+ because it works with my iPhone on all my other vehicles) and an adapter cable.
Cost was <$200, and I can now clear and change my service interval (I think I set mine to 65,000 KM/5 years, so I don't have to worry about it much), read and clear codes, and do diagnostic/actuator settings resets.

If anyone in Houston area wants me to do yours, just message me and we can figure something out.

OK, I stand corrected. I bought mine a few years ago before some people jacked up the economy. Still cheaper than GS-911 or the BMW dealer service.

My offer to reset the service indicator still stands.

You are a Saint among men! 🙂

But seriously, I may have to retract my vow to never buy another BMW.

An important part of BMW, Harley, and Volkswagen culture was always the small sub-culture of autistic nerds who would expend vast amounts of time and energy to completely D.I.Y. their beloved machines, regardless of evil corporate machinations against Right-to-Repair.

I was almost ready to give up on BMW and get an old Evo Glide of some sort.

If BMW clubs maintain a Pro GS011 tool for members, this changes things.

Thank you for this information Bryan. 👍

I have the GS911 it’s helpful for other things too. They continue to add enhancements like being able to program startup screens, add switchable mph or kph (which was not enabled on US bikes). I used to use the pro version but sold it when I sold my older GSA, but after my 6 month experience with the Pan America, I bought another GSA and decided to just get the enthusiast version. But I think the GS911 is an important piece of kit to own with any BMW.

I came across this old thread and thought I would mention that I have a GS-911 diagnostic tool and mine works on an unlimited numbers of VINs. I used to service my 2017 BMW R1200GSA myself. Prior to purchasing the tool, I recall taking my bike to the dealer a couple of times so they could reset my service reminder and they would charge me around half an hour of labor or something like that. I don't know what they charge nowadays. I have since sold the bike. Regardless, I am NOT open to selling my tool so please don't ask but I am open to resetting your service reminder for a small fee if you're in my area. The tool can do other things too. I can run a diagnostic report to see if your bike currently shows any error codes. Maybe this could be my side hustle :-D. I live about one minute from Magnolia Parkway Elementary School on FM-1488 in Magnolia, TX. Reach out if interested.

Did you purchase the "Pro" version of the GS911 tool that requires a $100 per year subscription ?

But seriously, I may have to retract my vow to never buy another BMW.

I am a weak man, with poor commitment to my values. ☺️

That said, I hereby commit to illegally hacking BMW's evil proprietary computer system this August when the East Texas Heat & Humidity drive me indoors.

John....I bought my tool around 6 or 7 years ago. At the time, I believe they sold 3 different versions. One that worked for a single VIN, one that worked for up to 10 VINs, and one that worked for an unlimited number of VINs. I don't think the Pro Unlimited version with an annual fee was available back then. I called Ted's Beemer Shop in California yesterday to confirm and the fella said that my tool had been grandfathered and will work on an unlimited number of VINs. So, yes, mine is the Pro version but without an annual fee.
