The weather man promised a couple of beautiful November weather days. So, I wrangled about a dozen or so Big City DFW folks down to East Texas to show them what a curve looks like with out a toll plaza jamming up traffic every 3 miles.
Saturday we gathered near the Forney Dairy Queen on US80 and plied the back roads thru the Ben Wheeler, Edom, Jacksonville and Nacogdoches. Lunched at the https://clearspringsrestaurant.com/menu-nacogdoches/ (yes we shared a couple of piles of the Onion Rings!) Then zoomed on to San Augustine and Hemphill before going a little further South of Newton close to Bon Weir and back up to Jasper to overnight. Hit the hotel right at dark (5:30pm nowdays)
Sunday was a trip thru the Davey Crockett National Forest and back to Ben Wheeler for a burger at the Moore Store and then home to DFW. Them poor city dwellers were left panting for more.

East Texas ... under appreciated destination.
Just pick a road and it's great!
Late March and early April the dogwoods are in bloom and can be breathtakingly beautiful.
