Ever since I got my VStrom, it has performed flawlessly.
However the size of the windshield unfortunately makes the front end very light
resulting in a tendency to weave left and right.
Has anybody else experienced this?
What solutions have you found that work?
I’ve looked for a smaller windshield but, found none.
Before I remove it and install just a backing plate or hack it in half, it would be nice to know there are other options.
Don’t really care about the windshield itself since it really only acts like a sail and does not protect me against anything.

And how old is the Strom and with how many miles? And do you have a photo of the bike in general? There are other things that can cause that to happen with the Stroms.

Its Doug’s old VStrom an 06 w/ 23k miles.
I was thinking it was the windshield b/c when I rode w/out it, the bike handled just fine.

It's a first gen Vstrom. The fairing produces lift even with a tiny screen on it. That was one of the biggest issues I had with my '04, alongside not being able to eliminate the buffering from the windshield.

Mine (DL650 - first gen) did that when I put a larger aftermarket screen on. I added a Fork Brace and it tightened it up considerably. Especially on windy days or on the Interstate with a lot of truck traffic. Made the bike a lot more "planted"

Raise the fork tubes by appx 3/4" in the triple tree clamps....but not too much or the fender will hit on full compression.

Also ...since it has the Madstad mount & shield...try changing the angle or height.

I bought a Givi D260ST for my first 650 waaay bac in 06. (Similar to your Madstad shield) I didnt care for the sail effect & switched back to the smaller MRA Vario Touring with the adj wing.
Several years Later...MRA started offering 2 diff heights of the Vario & I ended up with the taller of the two (20" vs 16" I think)
That lil wing really works

There are now many options for adding a wing to various shields...incl Puig & MRA. Powerbronze has a shield appx 20-21" tall for not much $...add a wing & done

First and foremost thank you all for all the help and advice.
Sorry that it took a while.
As is the case with most things this was an instance of less is more.
While a few small items are still in the mockup faze, many of the desired results have come about just by removing some of the gaudiest plastic Suzuki could ever put on a motorcycle.
While I would never call a VStrom pretty once you remove all of the unnecessary plastic it does have a nice naked Aerodynamic look that is alot less prone to the temperamental movements of wind and airflow.
Too bad I can’t fit a matching 06 Suzuki SV front wheel to it b/c of incompatible wheel sizes otherwise I would have a really nice sports tourer.

I considered turning mine into a naked too, before deciding to sell it. Hope it works out for you! That motor really is wonderful.

Ah...but you can....Its been done more than once. The 1000s drive the speedo off the countershaft so a 17 up front wont hurt the speed read.
John Weldon had a thread on VSRI forum about the 17" conversion...
