So, most of you probably already know what I am about to say... BUT... I gotta say it anyway
Ride Rules/Guidelines (mostly how to keep the group together).
I am not big on tons of rules, so I want to keep it simple.
STAY RIGHT IN CORNERS AND ON BLIND HILLS!!
SPEED:
You are responsible for yourself and your bike. Ride a speed you are comfortable with at ALL times for whatever conditions you might encounter. That said, please be mindful of the fact that there will be homes along most of the roads and you probably don't want someone, or ten, blasting down your road at crazy speeds. So try to use common sense and "play" where appropriate. You pay for your own tickets if you get any
CHANGES OF DIRECTIONS:
I won't be able to stop at every single intersection to wait for the entire group to reform before taking off again. With ten riders, that would eat up a LOT of time. To keep things moving, we will do the "tag" system. I will slow/stop at intersections. Once I have confirmation from the rider behind me that they KNOW I am turning, then I will continue. They will then need to WAIT until they KNOW they have confirmation from the next rider.
DO NOT assume the other rider sees you turning and then take off!! I cannot stress this enough!! WAY too many times I see riders roll up, acknowledge me, then the moment I go, they go right behind me without waiting for the next person

I do not want people riding at a pace they might not be comfortable with because they are afraid they are going to be left behind. At big intersections, like major highways, I may wait for the group to reform, but not every dirt road intersection. So this is extremely important. Whenever I have ridden back in a group or as sweep, I will actually stand and wave to let the rider ahead of me know I see them.
WHERE IS EVERYONE!?
IF you come to an intersection as indicated by the route on your GPS and you do not see someone waiting, STOP!! Wait for the rider behind you. Then continue as above as each new rider appears and acknowledges they see you. If you get separated from the group somehow, don't go wandering off. Stay on the route and CALL me if you can. my Cell is 936-577-6627. IF I don't answer, LEAVE A MESSAGE!! I will call you ASAP and figure out how to get you back in the group.
My phone will NOT ring if your number is not in my contact list, so it might be a good idea to shoot me a message with your real name, username, and number so I can add it to my contact list.
THE BUDDY SYSTEM:
Keep an eye out for the person behind you even if we aren't at intersections, especially if we come through a spot that might be challenging: water crossing, sketchy bridges, nasty mud pit, etc... Just roll off a bit until you see the next person get clear and then keep going. If it has been a while since you last saw the headlight of the person behind you, stop and wait a minute or two. If they still don't show up, turn around and go back... CAREFULLY. We don't want anyone hitting someone else in a blind corner or something. Ideally, if we all do this and someone has had a problem, the entire group will return in relatively short order.
SCOTT'S UNEXPECTED AND RANDOM HARD BRAKING MOMENTS:
If you have ever read any of my ride reports or have ever ridden with me, you will know there are two reasons I might stop suddenly. I was having fun and just blew past our turn, in which case I will be pointing back at the turn if I realize it. The other reason is that I take a lot of pics, but I am quick about it usually. If you see me stopped and my helmet is still on, then it will be a quickie stop, not a smoke'm if you got'm stop or a nature break

Again, this would just take way too much time. It usually takes me maybe a minute to take a pic unless I actually get off the bike, in which case it might take 2-3 minutes at most. If I am stopping so we can actually take a break, I will remove my helmet and make it obvious we are taking a break. Then you can go pee on the trees, weeds, and fence posts.
COMMS:
Daniel and I are running Cardo Packtalk Edge units. I do not like having a mess load of people on comms. I like my solitude and Daniel talks enough for both of us

That said, if we have someone running sweep that has a Cardo, it might be good to have that person, and maybe someone in the middle, on comms. That might help us keep track of each other if needed. If I know Daniel, he will want to be somewhere near the front of the group.
LAST RULE:
Have fun and stay flexible. I've never ridden most of the these dirt roads. We may encounter dead ends, locked gates or who knows what. Don't get hung up about HAVING to "do the route" as planned. IF we do have to make changes, that will be a point where I wait for the whole group to reform to make sure we are all on the same page.
