Back by popular demand... :-P

This is the route for Saturday's ride 06/13/26. Rides starts/ends in Huntsville, Tx., at the Smiley's Shell Station at the intersection of FM 247/980 on the North side of town. There is a Park-n-Ride lot at the intersection of FM 247/2821, just over the hill from Smiley's. You can leave trucks/trailers here without any problems.

We leave at 9:00am, so please be there a bit before that and ready to roll at 9:00am. The ride is approximately 240 miles. We will stop for lunch in Elkhart, Tx. It will be hot. I strongly recommend having a way to carry water so you can drink during the ride. You will want tires biased towards dirt. There is sand and mud in some sections. Most of it is gravel.

Depending on the pace of the group, we will be back in Huntsville 5-6pm. IF you want/need to bail out, there are plenty of places to get back on a highway and head for home. Just be sure I know you are leaving the group so we don't waste time looking for you.

That looks like an interesting run. Is that route more of an exc500/full knobby type route, or would it be reasonably doable on an Africa twin with tractionator gps rubber?

I posted in some of the Facebook motorcycle groups I participate in that I would be leading a ride this Saturday. Parts of the route are very familiar to me and parts of it will be new to me. I like to keep the unknown aspect of adventure riding in my rides when possible. We've had a lot of rain...

Thnx, good read. Still sounds like a fun run. I just don’t/wouldn’t want to be a boat anchor for a group of experienced riders on dirt focused equipment. Hmmm..
 
Thats a hangup of mine, I’d be absolutely lying if I said I’d ever been on anything more gnarly than a maintained forest service road. And sure, I know the theory behind changing a tire and tube on the side of the road, but I’m not certain I’d be fast enough at it to not feel like an absolute jerk holding everyone up. That’s part of why I picked up a CRF450 though, I think I’d be way more comfortable joining up on something that might have more dirt than road on it over my big Africa Twin.

I’ll be heading to Nashville in an hour or so, so I’m out this ride either way. Even though I haven’t made it out to one, I want to say I think it’s great of Tourmeister to put these together for people to join up!

You'd be fine on the AT. I will be on my 1200 GS with worn out tires :-P

You don't have to worry about being left behind or holding up the group. Woodsguy thinks he is the slowest rider ever and I never have to wait on him more than the time it takes me to snap a quick pic and shove my phone back in my pocket :-P I always wait at intersections and route changes to make sure every one is accounted for.

The 500EXC will do it fine if your butt can handle 240 miles on the 500 :eek2:
 
Thanks for the info. Didn’t want to be an anchor. I’m looking forward to it! Barring some last minute SNAFU here, (teenage kids), looking forward to making that run tomorrow. A chance to meet some new people, and for me, explore some new territory. See you, and whoever else is there, in the morning! Woohoo!😎
 
Sounds good. I usually roll up about 8:45-8:50am.

Well, here goes…had a really fun run today, until an old shoulder injury reared its head! Pins and needles shoulder to fingers, while same time numb. Sighhh! Had to bail early. Thanks to Scott for ‘showing me the way’ this morning. Beautiful scenery, nice elevation changes, all good! Sorry I had to bail, but was able to slowly wander back to pavement, and get back safe. Albeit painfully! Oh, and… guess what I forgot in your saddle bag? My bad! Once again, fun run, great area, and my apologies on the bail out.

Posted before I read yours, yep, old, broken And forgetful! Had a blast! Thnx, and as stated, sorry for the bail, but my arm is just Not happy today! Let me figure out when I’ll be that way, and I’ll coordinate with you to ‘pick up my junk’ Sorry about that, total noob move!
 
No worries. Was a fun ride! I stopped in Crockett and got a milkshake at Whataburger to cool off before making the final push home. About to hit another round of ibuprofen... :huh2:
