Yes, I'm sure that's a KTM part, but most guards I see on dual sport bikes hug the fork tube a lot closer. Actually now that I'm thinking more about it, can I assume on a beast like that particular KTM that the guards are doubling as aero components? Not sure what you're seeing on fork guard but looking on KTM home site, they look the same?
I've never changed an ECU, but from what I hear its a game changer on some bikes.
Clearance for the USD fork. What's going on with the fork guard on the KTM? Why does it appear to stick out so far from the fork tube?
I don't know...I'm still thinking that its shape is attempting an aero effect. It's only on the twin cylinder models which of course are capable of speeds over 100 mph. On the bigger models that same shape is even incorporated into the low fender. It's probably not something required...unless KTM experienced something odd at high speed with the handling. The 690 has more conventional fork guards and is capable of 100 mph speeds, but the bike has a slimmer, different profile. I don't think there's anything on that WP fork under that "pointy" fork guard requiring that much additional material. I think it's either aero or just for appearance.Clearance for the USD fork.

Only a KTM engineer would think the aero effect of that fork guard could be beneficial. No doubt in my mind the gas cap/radiator cap guy is involved!I don't know...I'm still thinking that its shape is attempting an aero effect. Scrapers for the sticky mudJust a guess, more splatter off to the sides?
It seems so obvious after you said itScrapers for the sticky mud

IBEX to the rescue.
Thought you'd like thatThat is just awesome! Sorry not sorry KTM guys! LOL
Ya, did my heart good!Thought you'd like that
The more you post the deeper that hole is getting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you drinking?LOL!...well, I am an engineer.
OK, that's a lie, but I did have one of those Lionel train sets when I was six.
You guys were laughing earlier...and it hurt deeply...but I'll survive...LOL! I think those of us who have been around bikes since the dark ages remember when some of the brands and models were really creeping up in top speed. Some handling deficiencies became apparent that came down to fender shapes and cosmetic fairing components. The shop I worked we had a friend buy one of those Z1R Turbo models. That little fairing wasn't an issue on the NA model, but it was discovered that it caused lift at 100+ mph on the turbo model.
I'm obviously not claiming those KTM's "need" that for safety or such, but it still might contribute to some stability by design and then it may also just be for appearance sake. I haven't owned one of the twin KTM's, but I don't think the WP fork required that fairly extensive "bump out"...or to be that sharp...except for aero or appearance.
Drinking?...for two days? I like a little tequila, but I back off after day one.The more you post the deeper that hole is getting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you drinking?

Just for the record!Well with that second Factory KTM blowing up yesterday. KTM might have to stop making those India parts and switch back to the Chinese parts supply house.
