🟠LUCAS COENEN’S CRASH MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AN ENGINE FAILURE🟠

Some believed the KTM motor died, but the rear wheel continued spinning throughout the crash.

The theory here is that Coenen simply ran out of gear, missed the upshift and got pitched forward when the bike stopped pulling.

Either way, the fact that he tried to save that crash all the way down was insane.

One tough dude.💪
That Coenen gene pool looks quite deep. Funny how that works with brothers...Lawrence comes to mind too.

Both sets of brothers along with the Stewarts are amazing. But these Belgium guys seem to up the ante a little. Think they dominate in moto here, not sure about s/x, that's a different game.

One look at the Erzburg will tell you how much americans are lite weights .
Hmmm...last I heard, Canada was part of America. :lol2:

Show my ignorance, who's that?
Trystan Hart, Canadian. Arguably "one" of the best hard enduro competitors in the world. There's a small handful of guys at the top who can win at any event at any time, but Trystan if definitely one of them. I'm mainly messing with David on the Americans being lightweights.

Edit to add: A U.S. guy, Cody Webb, is an old guy riding a 4-stroke Yamaha, and he occasionally beats Trystan, but Trystan is the more consistent guy. And fun fact, Cody finished 13th out of 500 at Erzberg on that 4-stroke Yamaha...only 15 finished Erzberg overall. 2-strokes pretty much rule the roost at Erzberg and elsewhere for hard enduro...usually a 300cc.

Codys whole family lives on two wheels , Payndon is up there too but he does talk funny . im sure jumping up in the air amd turning sideways takes way more skills then I have but real world racing getting from point a to point b fastest regardless of what gets in the way and real world obsticals were always more interesting than manmade dirt piles l its just way less spectator friendly .

@dirtryder won't like this update! An old man I ride in forest with. 400 HOuRS.

Just a little info on my 2022 GasGas EX350F. Bike had a hiccup at about 42 hours when I first got it back in 2023. Oil pump idler gear failed and took the entire engine with it. Dealer and GasGas made good on it and rebuilt it.
Fast forward to today and it has just over 400 hours on the bike and 360 hours on the engine. Went into the top end and was hoping for the best. This bike has run like top since the rebuild and I was interested how everything was wearing. Good news on everything. Valves , cams , guilds were perfect. Piston had a little stuffing but nothing you could feel with a finger nail. Top of Piston had carbon, inside of valves were clean. Bottom end had 0 wear , .013 feeler gage between crank and thrust bearings just like my other 350s. Pretty happy with the build, engine ran strong before and seems like the new build will hold also.
A few notes
64 Year Old Slow Fatman at the controls
15w/50 Mobile 1
Mostly low to midrange
Some Duel Sport connecting the trails
10 hour oil change, new filter every other change
New filter every ride
Typical ride is 3+ hours
Running DOT rear tires
Here's a few pictures

I think I have adjusted the carb on my 2011 Beta once , forgot I did have to replace the magnetic pickup coil several years ago . And a plastic crankcase hose cracked and leaked oil when I fell over trying to open a gate in colorado and its got a flat tire right now . The tubliss failed .

Guess wheels are butter too!

If it’s a KTM with a plate on it usually only takes one to make you stay as far away from them as you can get. But then you have folks that ride a bunch like 500 miles a year on a good year. They love them.

That's a shame to hear about the negatives on the KTM's. We've never had a dealership around here in Abilene, but a ton of folks use them at our club ranch where we do the Concho Enduro...and a I mean a bunch. They're all off road only models, but I hear very little in terms of complaints. And for a bike that I see in hoards out west in remote areas when I'm doing my thing, I don't really see or hear about much issue from those riders. No...I'm no KTM shill...never owned one and probably won't due to no local support.

I do ride a Honda CRF450RL, and I like what I see and hear about the durability/reliability out of it compared to these higher performance dual sports. There's a long running poster on the ADV CRF450L/RL forum who has the first L from 2019 who has posted every service, every issue, and every drop of oil that has gone into that bike and claims to show 50K on it right now. He's fixing to remove the top end for a freshen up...he says out of guilt...LOL! I don't know...I don't expect that kind of mileage at least without a valve job or such, but it's clear that the L/RL's seem to go long. One interesting observation seems to be that they almost never need valve adjustments after the first one. That may indicate something.

I've always had a kind of respect for most KTM's as much as I've been around them over the years and presently.

There's 1 in every crowd .. 1 that shines above the rest ... The rest are just , Bad apples ???
I took a bite of the hardleys , and the ktms .. Left a bad taste in my mouth ....

No interest in Harleys, full love for KTM. Almost all my racing when I got "serious" around 2000 has been on Honda 450 of some sort and lots of KTM's. 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Outside of a couple of Hondas with soft valves needing attention both brands have done me good. Neither kept me from ever not finishing a race. Currently on my last Honda 450, about too much for an old man. Doubt i buy another dedicated offroad bike anyway. If lucky maybe his 450L, lol.

BTW, my first KTM was way back in 1996 with a 250sx 2 stroke.

And contrary to @dirtryder I've had a few of the big street type KTM'S, not a world traveler but they all had way over 500 miles, lol.
