A while back I asked about some routes in Arkansas for Memorial day. Thanks to all that submitted stuff, but you really should have just told me to spin around till I stop and go that direction. We were overwhelmed at the amount of dirt roads available near our campsite at Shady Oaks Campground in Harrison Arkansas. We rode all over the area with quite a bit in the Ozark National Forest. Here's some stuff I thought I'd share from our trip there. Thanks again to all who contributed, we had a blast and can't wait to go back for more.

And here's some random photos I took.

When you buy a new saw, no matter how fruitless the attempt will be, you use that new saw at least once.

Josh playing around in the middle of a river. If there was water and it was mostly safe, Josh was playing in it.

These two goofballs avoid planning above all else. Well, not above avoiding pavement on dirt bikes. Here they are "Planning" fun routes to get us back to the campsite while avoiding as much pavement as possible.

I swear I'm happy here. I'm happy to be hiking in the woods, had a blast scrambling all over the place, once I got past the thick throngs of tourists clogging up the trail.

A guy at our campsite had this awesome truck. We knew a couple of our friends would appreciate this beast.

Washed out road we were checking out when I discovered my mechanical issues.

Not a bad view while I wait on the rescue "Team."

This is the rescue "Team" which consists of just Josh enjoying the ice cold air conditioning from that "Texas truck."

Just an example of cooking over the fire that was done, great meals were had. We have some food pictures in the other guy's ride reports.

So what was your mechanical issue? Looks like a fantastic area to ride, will have to drag the wife and her DS bike over there for a long weekend!!

Two things.
First, deep water and the E model aren't friends unless you do some plumbing with your carb to keep all the hoses from going in the water at the same time.
Second, countershaft sprocket came loose allowing the spacer to move enough to puke oil. I thought initially that it was one of the seals but nope. Apparently both of these are more common than I knew after searching the webs. Either way, gave me the opportunity to freshen up the bike with all new seals, o-rings, chain, sprockets, etc. All were needed. Thankfully it happened so late in the trip it only ruined one afternoon instead of multiple days.

Wow! Hills, water, rocks ... everything Houston is not.
Also everything Dallas is not. Had to get away, highly recommend it.
