Harleys for the non-Harley guy

Instead of hopping on the 95in blowout jug specials from HD back in '06/7, I had mine bored, fitted with S&S pistons and a mild Screaming Eagle cam upgrade, and the jugs still matched the rest of the engine. I don't care what the horsepower is, I don't care what the torque is, it has everything I want and need and twisting the throttle makes me happy. After all I went through, now every time I go into the garage and see those two beauties ready to roll out the door and deliver joy, I just stop and give thanks that I still have them after the dark years and they are back in prime shape. Rabbit holes no longer interest me.

Many an evening I go out there before bedtime and just sit and reflect on one or both, and I listen to what my soul is telling me.
It's telling me: "Its about freeking TIME you did this, stoopid!"

Mine started as a 103, it had some mechanical issues in addition to the standard congenital anemia - not to mention I am a big old boy. I bought jugs and left the stroke alone. On my Fords, stroking with the same deck height compromised the ring package long term. I chose some conservative cams choosing torque and skipping the lumpy idle, added mildly ported heads, and an “X” pipe. Also sent lower end out to get crank sorted and a Timken install. Got the quietest mufflers that gave performance. Only deference to appearance was keeping 2 mufflers -a 2 into 1 would likely given better performance. I learned bracket racing and building cars - if you gotta spend money - do to further the specific build goal and not for something past it. Save that “ego” spending for better bones and not flash. Bigger cams / higher compression does no good if you overheat in traffic or the crank scissors cause you cheaped out.

There is magic in running something you created Be it winning races with the engine/car you built or, in the case of my FLHP, rolling on the throttle feeling the smoother running, and stronger acceleration implemented in the build. Basically you get two thrills - zoomies from being on two wheel and boo-yah from the mechanical work
