Hey everyone,

My name is Anthony and I live in Pearland (well, technically Manvel, but that little bit of Manvel surrounded by Pearland). Fairly new rider; did MSF last year and bought a Yamaha MT-03. Realized recently it felt like I had training wheels on so I traded it in for a Honda CBR650R (pictured, nicknamed the Wendigo) and now it feels like I’m on a proper motorcycle. Really excited to join here and talk about all things bikes!

Man, I remember when Manvel was a blinking yellow light on Hwy 6 and not much else :lol2: I was in Jr. High in Alvin when they built the "new" Harby Jr. High out in Manvel, but did not end up being sent to that school after it was finished. Hwy 288 ended at Hwy 6 back then. I have in laws down in that area in Manvel and Alvin. Whenever I get down that way I am always blown away by how much the area has grown, even in just the last 10 years. That is a tough area to live in if you ride a motorcycle, as in there aren't many fun places to get out and ride if you aren't into just cruising. I think there is a track down by Hitchcock though where you can do trackday classes. Doing one or two of those is definitely worth the money if you can swing it. They will do wonders for your riding skills!

Anyway, good looking ride. Welcome to the site!

Welcome. So, is Pearland pronounced "Pear-land" or "Pearl-and". Asking for a non-native Texan friend....but he got here as soon as he could.

Welcome aboard! Here's a couple threads to keep an eye on:

It’s wild to see how much this area has grown up and out just in the 10-12 years we’ve lived here! Definitely not a lot of space for good long rides, so I have to get creative. Thank you for the heads up on Hitchcock—I’ll check it out!

:-D It’s Pear-land, so named after the abundant pear trees that were here when the city was first being established. The city has actually made a lot of decorative changes in the last few years with a heavy emphasis on a “pear” motif and some of the designs are really pretty cool.
Having grown up in Houston and being very familiar with the area, I remember being surprised years ago when I first heard someone ask this question, but it makes sense if you’ve only read it and never heard someone say it out loud!

Thank you! I’m definitely interested in joining some group rides now that I feel more confident on two wheels, so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for upcoming events.

It's always nice to see new people joining TWT. Social Media has really caused a decline. Twenty years ago, this site was the most popular online communication method for motorcyclists in Texas. But now, it seems like forums are making a comeback as people grow weary of the tech-giant platforms, and that's a good thing in my estimation.

I don't spy on or track TWT users in any way shape or form. I don't sell information about them (not that I have any too sell...). I am FAR too lazy to be bothered with such nonsense. I just wanna ride! :thumb:

Yeah, I have a Bluesky, Instagram, and Reddit account for various reasons, but the social media I use the most by far is Discord, which is more or less just a different approach to forums. I’m very fortunate to have found some wonderful communities on there. No one is particularly interested in motorcycles in those Discord servers I’ve found, so I’m really glad I happened across this site.
