Honda CRF300L and Rally and LS

@Trail Boss ,
For all the cost and my skill level, I will stick with stock one for now. The Rally is just a lot of fun and takes me back to when I had a hand me from Dad, a '72 TS 125. I rode that bike everywhere. The Rally just suits me. It handles good on the hwy and gravel roads. As I get older and bike weight becomes a factor, it will be my keeper bike.

Got my rear rack reconfigured (from stock 1970) and mounted! Ready for action!

Spent about 7 hours on the 300L yesterday. Long but amazing day. Explored the San Juan Mountains north of Durango, CO. Several firsts for me as a new dual sporter. First legit water crossing and ultimately did about 6 of them. I’ll say this…crossing moving water over baseball sized slick rocks is no joke. I didn’t go swimming but for sure I have a new respect for water. And I had my first kerplunk in a deep rut going up a hill. Nothing damaged on me or the bike, and glad to get the first one out of the way. Awesome day.

If you didn't do Stony Pass out of Silverton you should go back hit that, take it all the way to Pole Creek crossing and back. It's such a nice long and flowy run where you can actually get some decent speed going once you've gotten on the south end of the pass. The headwaters of the Rio Grande are up there as well.

Afternoon ride. Robert and I rode a few gravel roads today. Stopped by his house up by Salesville. Went thru Oran to Old Christian road to Hwy 4. North to Halsey rd to Rock Creek road. 1191 to Upper Flat Creek to Finis to Graham and the DQ. We took 380 thru Bryson then Smith to Salt Creek then wandered around for a good while. Rally needs a bath. Rode 155 miles today. Had a good time.

I test rode one a week ago. Not a bad little bike. Went pretty good up to a bit over 50 (I had limited space) and had plenty of meat in the mid range for normal riding. What surprised me was the vibration. I know I've gotten used to my big Twin, but I swear my DR was noticably smoother.

Rode down to Hico thru Rock crusher, Lipan, Bluff Dale on to Hico. Going to ride on a ride tomorrow with the BDSR's. First with the gear on the Rally. Handles ok. The one pick has gear strapped on top to ride back to town for a meal. Pretty happy with bike. Don't think gear is too heavy and throttle response is what I expected.

Third oil change, left the belly pan and plastics on this time….and the oil will be drizzling off the plastic for the near future….and so it goes. May look into a fumoto for the drain…🤷🏻‍♂️

The CRF300LS is also calling my name... I just wish Honda would offer better rider accommodations for a passenger. Better suspension this year, better hear management, low seat... Wild West Honda has one. Hmmmmm...

Past 5K on my Rally, with a better seat. I like it! But no concerns for a passenger.

How fast will a big bore CRF300l Rally cruise? I tested my bike this past weekend and here are the results.

I sat on a Rally yesterday and the regular CRF300L. There is a big difference in seats. The Rally's seat was much better. I think the tank and seat of the Rally on the CRF300LS would make a pretty good all rounder. The Rally sits a little high...

I pretty much like mine stock. A better seat could always help but I am pretty good to go with stock seat for now.
