Honda CRF300L and Rally and LS

Some random notes: My 300rally will go 82 MPH loaded in 90 degree weather.
It will also make 70+ MPH on gravel and is steady as a rock…

Nice, where is that? Really like the wide open expanses of some areas of TX vs here in the Piney Woods.

A smidge over 1100 miles since Tuesday on the little Honda, and biggest thing to report is….no surprises.
Very happy with the varied gravel handling, a few times yesterday and today I had to haul her down from 50+ on gravel to avoid road damage or bad ruts, etc.and the machines light weight just wins the day. Good week riding so far….😊☀️🇺🇸

Always a dilemma on what bike to buy, Going to try the regular 300L. Got in a tight spot not too long ago on heart attack trail and the DR650 was sure heavy for my old crusty self. Went down to the Cypress area and picked up a 2022 300 non rally. Has less than 500 mi. was very reasonable price.

I’m a total dirt novice. Bike was great for running forest roads in Sacramento mountains. Easily tractor up steep, loose grades and navigating roads in GPS that turned out to be loose rock creek beds! I’d do it all again

I was almost brave enough to ride all the way from Austin to Cloudcroft. North TX sand storms and self preservation prevailed. Bike is small enough to easily manage on and off a hitch carrier

You made the best choice especially for the trip home.

Richard,
What are you're thoughts on the rear bag ? Looks like the one we had at the Tgiving 600.
It is a copy of the same bag sold by Aerostitch. I've had a larger version of this bag from Aerostitch for years that I use for multi-day trips. I bought the smaller size for day rides and 2-day trips when I'm not doing much dirt riding.

What do you think about the CRF300L so far. I see you're a DR rider as well, so the reason for asking.
I'm wanting a DR650 but my buddy is trying to persuade me towards a CRF300L.

Don't know if I could tolerate a 300 on the road for any length of time. Not going to travel, but have Forest roads to ride, some about 10 miles from the house, and others anywhere from 30 - 60 miles.
And also have some great 2 lane roads to ride all day if wanted.
But it's that log truck that's on my hind end on a 70-75 mph road, or the dump truck going 50-55 that I want to get around, and I mean get around NOW.

I done got spoiled to sitting behind a windshield the past several years on a bike that will get you to 80 mph before you even invite 4th gear to the party. .....

Any of y'all feel free to chime in.

Thanks

Posted in the ..., mods,... forum about adjustable lowering links.
I read that the LS fork springs are a softer/lighter spring rate than the L and not much of a drop.
Looks like I can only raise the forks ~3/8" before leaving the intended triple clamp range.
Best further front lowering option if I'm ok with the L's OEM spring rate? Cut some off the spring?

I love my 2021. Closest thing I have found to a unicorn after doing the big bore. The only thing I wish I had is highway stability above 65. It will get up to almost 80 but it is scary!

Pics from a trip to BB in 2022?; Loved the CRF300 - great on these types of roads and could
cruise at 65mph on the flats; Light, nimble, stable. Sold it because I needed a 2-UP bike.
Still miss it. I may get another one and do the Arnie upgrade.

I missed the Tiddler meeting. Visiting the daughter. I brought the Rally to ride some. Today, I went south to Ft. Parker state park " first pic " then to Grosbeck on to Old Union then across Limestone lake up " second pic " and east through Buffalo to Oakwood. Stopped for fuel and Big Red. Continued up 79 and turned on 645 through Tennesee Colony. Stopped at Richland Chambers dam and the 287 bridge for a pic. Stopped Gus Angelin WMA for brief stop. 31 from Corsicana to Dawson then Navarro Mills lake. Then back roads back to Wortham. 201 miles today and averaged 74.5 mpg. Nice day but started getting a little warm. Raining now, got back just in time.
