Hey Brian, I hadn't seen that video before. Watching now.

I just finished a 3,500-mile almost all paved ride from home thru CO, UT, AZ, NM and back in 10 days. This was to be a real test of how comfortable the Transalp is for me over a sequence of days. Before then, I had done only day rides and short jaunts. At lower speeds, I'm not a huge fan because it's a little lurchy and the off-idle throttle is intense like many EFI bikes.

This longer ride included some mile crunching even on awful Interstates crowded with the trucks we all appreciate for hauling our goods. The Transalp really surprised me. It's pretty great at speed -- very comfortable, and I went all day with no particular issues. Little niggles aside, I'm definitely happy and this little beast has earned her keep.

Black beauty and, It's A Honda !
I like those Shad's too, decently priced

That bike looks so familiar...where have I seen it before...maybe in a dream?...no...

I am so glad it is being used for this!

Hey Randy, nice write up. I'm on a VStrom 800DE, and we're practically neighbors. Give a holler if you want to ride the Hill Country some time.

Test rode one at Grapevine Honda yesterday. I am impressed! It definitely made the short list for one of my next bikes! The power was much more than I expected. The handling felt great. I Loved the gear spacing. I'm 5' 10" 172 lbs. With the oem windshield it didn't feel like I would need to do anything as far as replacing the windshield. I rode the bike up to 80 mph. I like the location of the muffler. Out of the way of one putting panniers. I don't like panniers sticking out far and I don't get why so many bikes put the muffler in the way? The seat wasn't the best...but nothing that an air hawk or wild *** seat cushion wouldn't be able to fix. I am concerned because in doing some reading on the Transalp owners blog about water intrusion in the instrument panel and that there is some vent hole that water can get in to and the instrument panel just goes blank when getting wet and that Honda was not covering it under warranty?

The 1990 red transalp we bought new for my wife almost made it home before getting a flat rear tire requiring a trailer. You'd think they would have figured out tubeless systems long before now, but no let's just invest in cheap parallel two technologies instead. Hey let's even put an underpowered one in the new sport tourer NT1100. Too bad it's overpriced as well. So much for the glorious V4s of the past. But now that I've owned two Honda parallel towns, I can say they seem quite reliable and smooth, which is what I actually needed, not so much wanted. They may have got it right after all...
