Friday is going to be as good as it gets in January. Steve (Agman) and yrs trly are planning on riding the Welgehausen Rd (Butler T1) from Crabapple and the Willow City Loop (T1) with a lunch stop in Fredericksburg. We will meet in Goldthwaite at the city park on 183 at 8 am. This is an open invitation to anybody who would like to ride with us. We could set up another meeting place like Llano if someone is coming from that direction. Nothing set in concrete except the date and the T1 roads, so any advice from the more experienced members will be appreciated. I have the Texas state highway map, The Roads of Texas, Rand McNally Texas road atlas, MadMaps, and Butler Texas Hill Country map. I may end up using Google maps. I will spend some time trying to make it a good loop but there may be some roads that should be avoided and some that shouldn't be missed. Again, advice and other riders are very welcome.

Hi Robert,

That is a fun set of roads. It looks to be well into the 70s that day. I heard within 7-10 days, they expect another massive Artic blast again!

Happy Trails,

RB

I could recommend some roads, but I need to know if you intend to stay on pavement or if you are looking for dirt.

Your mention of T1 roads from Butler maps implies paved, but I have been wrong before.

If you plan on eating IN Fredericksburg, lots of choices.
If you want to journey a bit south of there, Alamo Springs Cafe is the best around.

To the north, Hill Top Cafe: http://hilltopcafe.com/ But no separate checks.
And they are closed between 2pm and 5pm

Here is a route suggestion for the area (all paved):

Hill Top Cafe is at "B".
I couldn't get Google to gracefully change the route after B to take 2323 north then Wendel-Ahrens road back down to Cherry Mountain Loop, but I think it is a better choice.
Hilmar Jung at turn 19 is a very nice scenic little road.

Paved roads only tomorrow. Dirt roads maybe when it warms up and I have a little more experience.

Thanks for the loop map and recommended restaurants. I may change my loop to yours. Most of the roads around Fredericksburg are red or orange on the Butler map. So many scenic, twisty roads to ride, one day won't do it. The area has state parks too. For a newbe, it's a revelation that this motorcycle playground is only a hundred miles away.

I've followed Neal around the hill country many times. If you use one of his routes I gaurantee you'll enjoy it.:rider:

The T1 roads are outstanding! The Willow City Loop is easily worth paying a fee for the privilege of riding it. Welgeheusen Road was grins from ear to ear. I recommend that all Texas motorcyclists who haven't yet, buy a Butler's Hill Country map ASAP and enjoy some incredible Texas roads. It was a fun day. Enjoyed Steve's company and the beautiful weather. Forgot my camera, so it may have not happened :) I realized after several miles that a Go-Pro would be the best way to record those roads.
