Updated 7/25/2018: I have been asked if there has been a go-fund-me type site set up for JT. I'm sure his medical insurance isn't going to cover all the costs for his lifeflight ride, surgeries, and the upcoming physical therapy he is going to need. Instead of using go fund me (due to the fee they charge), we are using paypal instead. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can donate on paypal to jthomp1@gmail.com. Use the "sending to a friend" choice and paypal won't charge a fee. Any and all donations will be very appreciated.

Friends,

JT (John Thompson) had a bad motorcycle accident on Saturday that resulted in a fractured vertebrae and a crushed left foot. He was taken to the San Antonio Military Medical Center and has been there since.

The doctors operated on his back yesterday and were very pleased with how the surgery went. They suggest a full recovery for the spine.

The left foot, on the other hand, is proving to be a bit more of a problem. Doctors have operated on it twice (once on Sunday and once again today). At this point it's not clear exactly what the prognosis is for the foot. Time and prayers will tell.

JT will likely be in the hospital for at least another week, depending on when another operation on the foot will be necessary.

I visited with JT this evening and he is in good spirits despite dealing with a bit of pain and being trapped in a hospital bed for at least another week.

Your prayers would be appreciated.

Oh, that's just terrible to hear. JT is tough as nails, but back work is never fun. Terrible to hear that the back issues are the GOOD news here.

If there are any odd or ends I can deal with on his behalf in Austin, I'm eager to help.

Elaine and I will keep JT in our prayers. He's a good guy and I hate to see this happen to him.

Praying for JT`s full recovery. It is customary in the cycling community to offer up a tiny bit of levity by asking how the bike faired.

Bummer, praying for you JT, I pray for a solid recovery

Very sad to hear about a bike related accident, but when it is about someone you appreciate and like, is terrible.
I will be keeping John in my prayers and trust all will be good at the end.

I'm so sorry to hear this.....

Prayers lifted for a complete and speedy recovery for JT.

Hate to hear this. In my thoughts and wishing for a speedy recovery.

Well ****, wish him the fastest recovery. I'm available for any chores or help that might be needed. Don't hesitate to ask (JT, Gina, Richard, etc)

Well wishes from Mexico JT. We'll be passing through san antonio Tuesday the 30th. If you're still in the hospital we'll definitely drop in. I heard about the wreck, but was so glad to hear about it in your own words! Heal up quick Amigo.

Necessito tequila, meds, or viagra from mexico?

Hate to hear news like that, hope all goes well with both back and foot. JT is a awesome guy. We will pray for JT’s quick recovery and hope to see him back on his bike soon.

Wow truly sorry to hear this, prayers for a fast and full recovery. Also if there is anything I can do to help don’t hesitate to ask.

Man, what a bummer! It goes to show that it can happen to the best of us, but I'd bet he was geared up.

John, wish I could do more than hope for a full recovery. You are definitely in my thoughts!
