July 28 Pie Run VII - Ponder, Tx.- In Search of Perfect Pie...

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

Hey, no prob. Great initiation for my new F650GS on its first ride out of town. I appreciate everyone's patience with my falling behind several times. Darn break-in period!

:tab 4000 rpm is all you can give for now. :lol2:

:tab That's a beautiful bike. (even with the dirt)

:tab Had loads of fun "dual-sporting" the FJR.

Thanks Everyone

Weather was good,

It was a great event.

Great people,

I can even begin to remeber half of everyones names.

I will work on that.

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

I rode around for Hours and never could find the place...

I think someone needs a trip to the optomitrist (IDR?) - it's hard to miss 70+ motorcycles all parked in one area...

So, what's the REAL story? :lol2:

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

Susan (tortuga) and I took a mostly "no-stress" route to Ponder - downtown Fort Worth up Main Street to FM156 by Meacham Field and just followed that to Ponder.

Just north of the courthouse we saw a group of 7 or 8 sport bikes headed toward downtown and were afraid that it was the pacman1 "waka waka" ride gone hopelessly lost... Dunno why they were headed that way.

We got to Ranchman's just before 11:00 and there were already a bunch of bikes parked and people gawking at them and taking pictures.

The bum is also planning to join a motorcycle tour in tha Alps :eek2: in September, so he shows off his map

Anna (annab) just recently got her Ninja and enjoys it immensely. Her boyfriend, Kevin, isn't into bikes yet, but she enlists him as the chase crew.

How often can you say "three up"? This family rode their Ural. I didn't get the names, but they are friends of Eric (ekms377).

The Rexers were here - here's two and there were more...

We jammed everyone into the back section and the front section of the restaurant. I know that this place is very busy on Saturday nights (you must have a reservation) and I thought that they did a great job taking care of us.

It was a great Pie Run. Somebody asked me who rode the farthest and I wasn't sure. These were almost all north Texas folks with several from East Texas - East Texas Elly and Mark from Lindale, Dutch from Tyler, and I think Jay (txbanditrydr) was farthest from Overton. I think Andy (VFRinAustin) would have been the champ if he had gotten up sooner. :-P

I probably missed someone that came farther - speak up & be recognised! :sun:

If you missed it - well, you MISSED it!

and Russ (busarider1), we missed YOU - stay safe. :patriot:

Yes, folks.. Wayne did great, even for the turn arounds...;-) hehhehehe Was alot of fun if not to early...;-)

Amazed me to see all the bikes... and even another K1200S... was great to see someone show up on one... that Ural was way cool... and looked in amazing shape...;-) Was very cool to see the amount of bikes.. amazing..;-)

Nice to talk with TxHoss and see that everyone was safe and sound too.
Great chocolate pie btw, and the "bones" was good to... the fries were really good wth a little salt added..hhehehe

And of course, Stinky made a point... Not everyone drives all out on a cruiser..lol got stuck on 35w south and still have not idea why on the way home.... finally got home by taking the roads threw Holtham city and heading down once we got to 820 south on the other side of that loop. Was nuts the way traffic was stopped on 35w. Still made it home by 3pm tho for a nice little nap before the Drag racing.. will comment in that thread next...;-)

Great shot, Chuck... no wonder mothers were drawing their children nearer when we rode by.

Not Overton... just south Tyler. 415 miles for the day but we had some detours. :trust:

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

Jeeze, i've got to remember to check the forum more often. This is the 2nd time i've looked at it the day AFTER a pie run.

What a turnout...is 70 bikes the record now? Anyone keeping track?

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

I had a blast!! This was my first long ride...ended up doing 170miles driveway to driveway on my glorified dirt bike. I certainly need a bigger tank and a tank bag and and...more PIE!!!!!!

Glad to meet some of ya'll.

btw..I was the goof-ball in the motocross gear.. :rider:

Just so y'all know -- this is what Chris looks like:

Thats a great pic John...man..when are we going again?

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

The "pale horse" rider... :eek2:

The red and black horses are obvious, however, the "white horse" must have to have some blue in it, too... :ponder:

I didn't realize it was the East Texas Bunch when I took the picture or I would have run to the other end of the parking lot... :lol2:

Re: Pie Run VII "Possibly Perfect Pie in Ponder, TX"

I love their pie, when can we go again?

I didn't notice. ;)

If this was 70 on the nose then it falls short - the original pie run (then called a Central Texas Meet N Greet) brought out 74 bikes, 78 riders, and 6 cagers. :sun:

I believe Hutto last year had 76.

Geez, Chuck, I can't believe you didn't tell 'em what happened AFTER the pie was gone.

So I finally got tired of standing around in the heat and decided to go find a breeze. Heading south on 156, approaching Justin around FM 1384 I see a familiar duo, Strom & scooter, doing a u-turn and heading back towards me. I caught Chuck & Susan turning down 1384 towards Drop and thought I'd barge in. A few miles in I find out their plan was actually to head out to Drop and have a look, but apparently we blinked and missed it.

As we stood there 3 abreast in the middle of the road while Chuck checked his GPS, I noticed something didn't feel right. My right foot felt like I'd stepped in gum. When I picked it up, I saw I'd left a big black bootprint behind. We turned back towards Justin, and Susan's tires also left a sticky black trail as she got turned around. At first I thought it was my old boots telling me they were ready for retirement, but I can't imagine Susan's tires were that hot, so I'm assuming it was just melting asphalt. Yeesh!

Of course, we didn't want to stay put long enough to get pictures. As we all know:
No pics = never happened.

Geez, Chuck, I can't believe you didn't tell 'em what happened AFTER the pie was gone.

Well, it is embarrassing when you go looking for something and come up empty handed. There is a sign on FM156 that has "Drop <--", and there is a dot on my GPS map, but nothing to indicate a "town". Crazy, huh?

Right about the pictures - I wasn't willing to risk putting my kickstand down to get out the camera... :eek2:

I'd just like to say... your bike is fricken SWEET!!!! I was this close (fingers really, really close together now) to figuring out if I could hotwire a KTM.

Sweet ride!

My son came along on his V Strom 1000 and was surprised to see all the other Stroms. At least 6 or 7 that I noticed.. but alas, only one TIGER!!! I did see a few Triumphs, maybe 3 or so.. and like my son, I'm not sure which is better, having one just like all the rest or to stand alone.. we got there about 11:30 and waited for a table for at least an hour.. all in all it was a 230 mile trip for me. He had a study group at school at 2 so we headed straight home after.

Ditto.....the wife and I had to stop at the new KTM shop in Decatur on the way home.....'cept they didn't have any streeters there.....on the way though!!!!

Re: KTM SE

Thanks for the kind words guys. The KTM 950's are great bikes, they are durable, reliable and easy to maintain.

Where is the new KTM Shop in Decatur?

The only guy I trust for the 950's is Curtis @ Cycletown South.

He is the BEST 950 KTM guy in TEXAS!

There is a dealership in FTW and one in Denton as well they are owned by the same guy but the FTW is not a very happy place. The Denton store has good guys there but they are new to the 950 line and I havent dealt with them to much.

Another KTM source I really like is Chip Munn of Munnracing.com he has great service but I am not sure if they sell 950's
