Thanks for the dam tour. That dam bridge wasn't there when I visited in 1990.
Did you take the dam tour or get any dam souvenirs?
It was dam nice of you to post this.

Hey Rman, you're right. It took a few days to settle down. The 19 hour truck drive home seemed the most boring of my life.
Yellowjacket- Thanks, and smashing job! The event was a complete success. I had talked to Paul several times on the phone before we drove out and he had all the right answers! But please don't make it shorter in mileage, it was just great. And the banquet was good fun as well.
Coolhand, here's one more of the rally bike, taken by Grumpy, the on course photographer. It is a real beast and raced from Paris to Dakar - and it holds 11.5 gallons of fuel!

Here is a super happy rider from Texas, just after the finish line at the Orleans casino.

I agree with Meriden that time management is key. There is time to stop for a few pics, have a snack, and visit with friends. But not time to ride super slow, crash a lot, deal with flats, take a nap, and still finish by dark. It gets dark quite early there.
Any little thing can really mess up your schedule. At the banquet, it was mentioned that some folks had multiple flats - ugh. And some got in after midnight.
So start each morning early, and keep a good pace. The first day, I had time to have a lunch at the Jack in the box, wash in their restroom, and service the bike a bit in their parking lot as our friend met us there in our truck. Day 2 had lunch provided by the firemen - Thanks!
And for budget, we each spent right at 1k - fuel, staying at the host hotels, Entry fees, etc. That did not include bike prep or vehicle prep.
I recommend it. I had fun and am all about going again.

Wow! What a tourist attraction! Was that on a weekday?
Ha, and look who showed up?! :lol2: Howdy Mud  Dang, I need to check in more often! Yes, it was Saturday afternoon. At the end of that vid you'll hear T mention the traffic, he wasn't talking about the Dam... DAM traffic, he was talking about the Dam traffic we passed getting there on the highway going back into Las Vegas!! It took us twice as long getting back. It was dark about the time my tail light blew out :argh: T got up real close behind me so his brake light would hopefully cover both of us.:eek2:

Well, considering that I'd never even seen the new Dam bridge not to mention the Dam installation in the 1st Dam place, that was the biggest Dam facility I've ever seen! WOW!!
Did you take the dam tour or get any dam souvenirs? It was dam nice of you to post this.
Thank you sir, but no, we didn't have time to do any of those Dam things. Too many Dam enthusiasts on the Dam road to do any Dam thing but drive across the Dam, not to mention the $7 (per vehicle) Dam parking lots which were filled to capacity with Dam visitors. We had to settle for the free Dam overlook! Next time I'll show up on a weekday and avoid the Dam crowd so I can at least park in a Dam parking lot like a typical Dam tourist! Now enough about that **** Dam :brainsnap.....

Great read Yellowjacket! Loved the CT90 report :eek2: and the others. Great quotes too.."We offered that we would be done with our rock bike stand in just a few minutes, and the other guy quips, "I thought this was the tire changing station? "  Cool to see quotes from Meriden and I as well. :thumb:
Thanks for taking the time to join up here at TWT, your newsletter and input is very much appreciated!

That was one wild ride and hope we see ya next time,

Rman

Yes, thanks for sending us the link. I really enjoyed Jame's and Autumn's story. We sat beside them at the banquet, a really nice couple.

Once again the Dual Sport staff at District 37 did a top job on this event. Plans are already in the works for next year!

I was reading the news letter over lunch and thought this might be interesting to some.

Brands and Rider Count

KTM 212 * lots-o-orange
Honda 156 * At least 2 were Trail 90s
Suzuki 55
Yamaha 47
BMW 39
Kawasaki 19
Husqvarna 16 * I wonder if that included sweep riders?
Triumph 8 * All of the Triumphs I saw were Meriden bikes over 30 years old.
Husaberg 5
Beta 4
AJS 1 * I believe that bike was ridden by Ed Crowell, oldest rider. We had dinner with him in Barstow. Nice guy.
ATK 1 * Interesting bike, but not as interesting as the...
Harley Davidson 1 *It was a HD motor, but that was about it. Quite a feat of engineering.
Indian 1 * 1951 500 twin.

Got my kitchen pass, but not without a hurdle. The mother in law's 80th birthday is this August and she decided to hold her party over the Thanksgiving holiday. She went ballistic when she casually mentioned it over diner and I casually mentioned that I'd be in California again.

Is JG riding sweep again this year? He had an interesing post about Husaberg and Husky being one now. I hope they don't put that cruddy fuel pump in the TE449.

Registration should be starting soon so keep an eye on the D37 Dual Sport website.

Can't wait to get out there agian. So much riding. It sure ain't Kansas.

Sand and rocks and hills, oh my!
