Laredo to Bandera - the scenic route...

https://goo.gl/maps/QWZUJQRYwzNu6Z7V6 - This route has every major Texas Hillcountry G1 Route (butler Classification) South of I10, plus miles and miles of off-road. The ride would begin from Laredo and proceed north to El Indio (Kickapoo casino/reservation) up the famed "Mines Road" through Gov. Dolph Briscoe's Ranch. The route then goes north to Bracketville (a great natural spring to take a dip in and one of the movie sets where they filmed "The Alamo" (the one with John Wayne if memory serves correct) and a calvary outpost are available for exploration. The first night out would be at Kickapoo Caverns state park. From there we'd cruise up to the Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area (if time permits) and down Texas' longest stretch of G1 (one of the "Three Sisters") and then up the famed Hackberry Road (and its Four Nueces River crossings) for an overnight at Camp Eagle. There are private hotel rooms, places to camp, cabins, yurts, and teepees if one was feeling a little splendid. Once camp is broken then it is down to Leakey, east to Vanderpool and Bandera (with three more major G1 sections for brunch), and then home again. It's a three-day weekend for those in the South Texas necks of the woods, perhaps a four if coming in from afar. We can rendezvous here in Laredo or up the road in Bracketville. This is my first post on this forum so please feel free to critique this proposed itinerary or suggest some off-road routes that incorporate the G1's. As usual, I tend to bite off a bit more than can be chewed, but inherent flexibility is part of good planning. It looks like a fun ride. It was unclear from your post when you are thinking about doing the trip.
 
We haven't set a date yet. But it is a possible go this weekend depending on the weather... It is MLK weekend!
 
I maybe might. Going to be chilly - need to test out my new Katabatic quilt :thumb:

The regular Kickapoo sites are booked, but looks like they have drive-up group camping available?

Too bad we never got together for riding when I was still in Laredo. We moved up to Leander (NW Austin) in 2019.

I'm not quite up for a road trip yet, but this sounds like fun! Your name sounds familiar, I probably know you...

Sounds a blast. All slab or what % if any off-road and how technical? I ride a Vstrom 650 and if much off-road I was thinking more 50-50 tires I’d want to install. Also, I’m more inclined for a motel room or similar. I was doing the 3 sisters in a two day trip from Austin last spring….good ride.
 
Semi-improved in some parts, paved near the cities I believe. I've been invited many times, never been.

A friend that used to invite me, rode this TDM which he sold me...

Sounds like fun but I’m already in Bandera. 🤣 I could possibly meet y’ll for the Hackberry road ride.
