Looking for something really good from just west of Austin to Magnolia. Will be leaving the HorseShoe Bay area on 71 then hitting 290 in Austin then on the Magnolia. Would like to stay on those two roads if possible. BBQ, chicken fried steak, casual comfort foods etc. Not familiar with good stuff there. Thanks.

Murphys in Winchester, 71 to Smithville then153 left to Winchester , turn left before the RR tracks and look for all the cars . you can back road it all the way to Hempstead from there or go straight to Giddings and get back on sucky roads . SEYA

Keep in mind that Murphy's is closed on Sunday and Monday, should either be the day of travel. Located a few miles South of Giddings where 448 meets 153 in Winchester.

A few miles off 290 on 21 toward Caldwell is the Elm Creek Cafe in Lincoln. They give you a choice of Deep or Pan Fried CFS.

The Roadhouse in Paige is another tasty place just a minute off 290. Exit 21 toward Caldwell, then a quarter mile up go right on Old Highway 20, just before you cross under the RR Overpass.

Thank you Sir! This is getting better all the time, really appreciate all the info. Don't travel that area much and we love the small local places.

Chappell Hill Sausage plant is East of town on the North side of 290. Small cafe, very good food. It doesn't come any fresher, they kill it right there.
