MexTrek 2009 - Oct 14-17, Galeana, Mexico

Hey guys, me, ISurf, and JThompson are here at El Jardin posting from there computer in the lobby.

I dont know if anyone is planning on going throug Los Ebanos crossing, but they did not have any ability to do just about any of the required paperwork, primarily the tourist permit.

We had to head into Reynosa (in the rain) to get the paperwork.

Anyway, if you plan using Los Ebanos crossing, have ALL your paperwork done.

Well see you guys on Wednesday!

how bout this spanish keyboard¿

Good to hear you guys made it down. Sucks about the crossing I got 2 yes's and a bunch of "i dont knows".

What are yall's plans until wednesday? still going to Real? How are things so far?

Everything is good. I bit it going around a corner, hit mud puddle, big ol mess. No damage though.

Going to Real tomorrow via using a good chunk of your tracks, Terra.

Not sure exactly what well do until Wednesday evening.

If I woulda gone, I 'd have had you guys on horse back on Monday checking out the mines and side roads in Real. The hotel we stayed at before is on the west side of town. Find the little plaza, turn right and go up the hill, you'll see the hotel (on the right). Nice little courtyard for the bikes and the office is the glass doors to your right when you walk in. The rooms are a little bit rougher than in Galeana, but you should be able to get them cheaper. Ask the price "Quan-tas coo-es-ta" if he's asking more than $30 for the room, try to get it for $30 or so. The room we stayed in was up stairs to the right, a 3 bed room.

Have fun amigos!

It was you!. I'm leaving at 5:30 in the morning (Sunday) with David Bell. Was Chuck spending all the time in Creel or was he going to head over to Galeana during the week?
Jeff,
I believe so, unless there is a change in plans.

Left the house this AM heading toward McAllen. At about 300 miles out a bearing and hub on my motorcycle trailer self distructed. When I took it apart to check--all the bearings fell on the ground and the hub has worn down to where a new bearing will not fit . :eek2: I am now sitting in the lobby (wi-fi does not work in my room- cell phone does not work at all) of a not too clean local motel in Ponce De Leon Florida waiting untill tomorrow to try and find a repair shop. The phone book lists the closest trailer supply in Crestview, which is 1hour away. I probably will have to leave the trailer & bike here at a repair shop and drive to get parts. I have no Idea how long it will take me for repairs. I still have a 18 hours drive to get to the motel 6 in McAllen. NOT sure if I have enough time to make the rally. I have reservations at hotel Magdelena in Galena- If I am not at the motel 6 in McAllen on Wed AM I will not use the reservations. Hope somone can use it. This is really a BUMMER-- I take good care of my equiptment. The bearings are no more than 2 years old. This is really a S**t happens.
Oh-- I do have Allstate road service-paid extra for RV/trailer/motorcycle. They do not answer the phone-- after 2 tries of over 30 minuites on hold -I gave up. The only positive I can think of , is that there is a liquor store across the street.
Will update yall on my repairs:: tomorrow night.

C-M...I just left you a phone message on your voicemail.

Just get that bearing fixed and press on to Galeana.

Don't worry about a thing. That's what credit cards, duct tape, zip ties, and true grip are for.

Keep on the trail to the Promised Land. We are waiting for you :chug:

Can't go. Cancelled hotel.

I was going to make a last minute decision on this trip......well, I'm not going to make it.
Just cancelled my hotel room (Magdalena) if anyone wants it.
Have fun.

So, is there any way to get my perfect running XR400 into Mexico, in light of the fact I have a bill of sale only, no title or tags? I have no issues circumventing checkpoints.....

As i know, i have some folks (gringos) who come to race to a trail called cimarrones in villa de garcia, nuevo leon. they raced in enduro (cr250,crf 450,kx250) obvious not plated bikes and they dont have any problem.. they just say in the border they come to RACE in a competition and while riding in the roads if u have problems with the police, you just have to prove that the bike is yours( title copy).. aswell in the border, you have to leave a deposit in case you dont return the bike... thats as far as i know.

and if not, like tricepilot say.. you can always leave a mordida.. jaja:rofl:

Roberto, how is the weather?

Roberto, how is the weather?

Last weekend we have some thunder isolated storms... not many, but the rivers are full of water. We expect same thunder storms for today and tomorrow, and in wed... sunny days ( hopefully) ... at least we wont have tons of dirt, i preferred mud than dirt... haha

cya soon !!

Thanks for thre words of encouragement , but I am not going to make it to Galena. I hope someone can use my single room at the hotel Magdela. I do not speak enough spanish to cancel , so somone please tell them I am not going to show up. I was not able to get my trailer fixed untill 4:00 this afternoon. I found a repair shop this AM but it took me most of the day driving to the next town to get the hub and bearings. I still have 1000 miles to drive before tues afternoon. Too long of a drive and not enough time. I thought about rideing in on Thurday, but I do not want to ride by myself in Mexico. I am the Florida guy-what the **** do I know about Mexico! I rely on you Texans to show me the way. Sorry to miss the rally, I have been looking foward to it for months. Worked on the bike all last week, new tires, chain, sprokets. Everyone have fun, be safe, and have a Cuevero for me.

Hey South Texas riders,

Anybody not attending Mextrek available on Thursday to escort cotton across the border and over to Galeana?

Almost a perfect day in around Galeana. A few short light showers around 2:00 dropped the temperature right back downj just when it was getting a bit warm.

A word of warning: If you are trailering or trucking your your own bike and vehicle across the border, figure out how to get it across ahead of time. I had understood you could take one truck, one trailer, and one motorcycle in your name since they were different types. I did not have a trailer, but had my bike and Dave Bells in the back of my truck and at the Pharr crossing near McAllen we got the Red light custom inspection and they would not let us proceed until we got all vehicle permits. You do not need any vehicle permit for travleing less than 20k into the border, but we did not want to argue. The people that give the vehicle import pèrmits would not give me one for the bike and the truck; it was one or the other since they were both in my name. We left and returned to the US and tried the Hidalgo crossing, also close to McAllen. We got the Green light that time, but still needed to get permits and they also would not do it. We eventualy convinced them my bike was a motox bike, which they said did not need one. At the 20k checkpoint, they did want to see the permits for the bike. They eventually waved us through after me looking around for a few minutes for the non existent permit for my "motox" Husky TE610 bike. Your mileage may vary.

Never heard of such a thing. Chuck went to Creel with his and Rick S's bike in the back of his pickup.
Have the rules changed???

Maybe they didn't realize that the bikes were in the back of the pickup?????

I passed Laredo's fairly busy 20k ck pt today and no one so much as even looked my way.
Oh, and at the bridge redlight/green light, I drew a no light. Stuck in limbo, the RR crossing barrier down no one knew what to do, some guys were motioning me to go under it. Which was quite impossible unless I did like Chuck and lay the bike down and pull it through.
Staying in Santiago tonight. Finally got internet in my room.

That barrier works like the traffic light with sensors (electromagnetic induction loop). Just kill the motor and start it again. It works for me.

I'm on my way to McAllen, a few hours early. Depending on when I get there I'm going to get the paperwork done and head south, or sleep in the truck in McAllen.

Should be there by 3 or so, keep an eye out for green Xterra.

Dont know if youll get this, but we are all back in Galeana for the duration. If you come on down, well be here Terra.

Hope you folks have a fun ride. I've been following the prep and now I'm looking forward to the ride report. My goal is to be ready to go next year. :thumb:

Wish I were there with you folks instead of laid up here. However, I will be praying for everyone to have a safe and fun trip. Maybe next year... :ponder:
