Ok; here are some of my pics and recap:
Started out with a brand new Goldentyre GT723 rear on my 950 Adventure S.
With a slightly later start than planned on Wed (AHEM.. someone..
); Curtis (Rocky Raccoon) and Sean Sykora loaded their bikes (1290 SA and Husky 701, respectfully)- along with Sean’s KLR from MexTrek #6, Which hadn’t had it’s TVIP ‘cancelled’.
I met the guys just south of Rosenberg; hopped on the trailer and we were off and running to Mission.
Arriving just before 5; we headed across the bridge to sort out permits/Visas for the next morning’s entry to Mexico.
At the border; amazingly, I had no issues with cancelling my previous permit and being issued a new one.
...some of our crew ended up being extorted for bribes- due to loose ‘violations’; namely: not having the ORIGINAL vehicle Reg. (Not title).
All-in-all; after a bit of hassle, we all were rewarded with the proper paperwork; and retreated to drop Sean’s KLR for storage - and off to the hotel for drinks in the hot tub with the other arriving MexTrekkers.
Thursday saw us all easily across the border, and riding through beautiful weather to Montemorelos for lunch.
On the way to Rayones; we stopped at the river. Some swam, while others took the opportunity to have a short, peaceful nap.
From there, we headed up again onto the gopher-hole plateau; with a much needed water/rest (and tire repair) stop in Ciénega del Toro.
After a long day of riding; we finished with an early evening arrival to Galeana Centro; where we checked into the hotel and regrouped for dinner and drinks to celebrate the wicked day 1 start of our adventure.
..more later...
