The transition to a small 250cc ADV motorcycle is made. Selling the large BMW GS1200 and the mid weight KLR 650 was a tough decision because fuel range and the ability to carry a lot of camping gear make them a good choice for adventure travel but they are heavy and have a tall seat height. With cruise control traveling 500 to 800 hundred miles a day is easy and fast. I enjoyed exploring the US and Canada on them. Camping out was also fun and saved money and like everything else there are Pros/Cons. Cons, not able to sleep in a tent in bear country, finding a place to shower and camping in the rain is not fun so the Hotel/Motel option is looking better. The advantage of the smaller 250cc bike and motel option is it allows you to carry less and with a 1 gallon can of gas the range is close to the big bikes. Why the Yamaha XT 250? The first reason is that I had one to many beers and the price was right. Reason two is the low seat height, I can flatfoot it. When buyers remorse faded, about a week, I noticed I was having more fun riding trails that I would never take the GS 1200 or KLR. There is less stress maneuvering the small bike in tight places. Has anyone ever dropped a fully loaded GS 1200? I have and it usually happens in a crowded Starbucks parking lot...right??? Yes, the XT 250 is slow and I thought that I would never say this but I could "TRAILER" the bike to get out of Texas and save one or two days. No major trips planned for the 250cc as of now just day tripping close to home in the Hill Country. So, Quid Non (why not)?

Cool story.

I find myself riding my 390 Adventure around the Hill Country more than my bigger bike. Just seems to fit well.

And it's light enough to throw on a trailer hitch and take it somewhere else as well.

I have been thinking about the trailer hitch carrier. What brand do you have?

I had a coupon/gift card for Harbor Freight, so I just grabbed theirs for like $84 or something. Looks like they have gone up a bit though.

Just sold a 2017 BMW Gsa for the same reason. Looking at 2021 xt for the same reason. I have ridden everying within a 1000 plus miles since 1994.Haul bike arrived fresh, and have fun. Sounds like a plan. Pitcock at 214 770 4858.

I get it. I added a 150 scooter for a time and couldn't believe how much I enjoyed riding at half throttle on the back roads with that thing. Keep us updated as time goes by. FI or carb on that one?

Researching the Tejas 1300 on a XT. I will let you know when I'm serious about this, your welcome to join.

The small bikes intrigue me as well. I have a Beta 125 RRS that is a lot of fun to putt around on.
