Nevadah Desert Sledin Dummies

Ouch! Aluminum sprockets...some are decent, some are not. I just installed a new rear tire on my XR650L that has Warp 9 wheels on it. The sprocket that came on the wheel is some aluminum alloy Honda XRL pattern, so a steel OEM style Honda sprocket will fit. However, after 5000 miles that aluminum sprocket looks perfect. I've got a steel replacement sitting on the bench, but apparently it's not needed yet.

Hope you guys get the sprocket situation sorted out and continue on with the Lawrence of Arabia trip.
Warp 9 you say…

TNC,
About 3k miles. I planned to change it when I got home. I called that wrong.

Not the brand necessarily. Aluminum sprockets are hardened only on a surface level. It will wear well until the minute it wears through that hardened surface then it will wear out in the blink of an eye.

Thanks for the update and detail. Not trying to derail Steve's literary manifesto here... :lol2: ...but since it caused a slight snafu on y'alls trip, here's a pic of mine at 5000 miles. Of course this is on an XR650L and not one of those fire breathing KTM's...LOL!

Now back to our regularly scheduled Shakespearean Nevada Tour featuring the silver tongued KsTeveM.

Little Feat…..guess my bullet isn’t that silver 😜

Where were my compadres? One was waiting on a fed ex guy to show up, the other was bushwhacking it. We were trying to sniff out the fading trail. This has been an adventure for sure!
