After logging over 20k enjoyable miles on a DRZ400, I always longed for a modern day equivalent with the 3 major updates that every DR-Z owner would love to see: 6 speed transmission, lighter weight, and fuel injection. This new Beta looks like a possible close candidate to dethrone the DRZ.

Cool bike ….but most Betas are awesome looking… but have fired someone.

Personally i think its ugly but i could get past it. Low fender and low exaust means some imediate expenditures.
Im thoroughly happy with my 2020 drz. Since i wont be taking it to Colorado it will do just fine for anything i can forsee.
Just did 3,950 miles on it. Mabdr, nebdr. The return to Arkansas via pavement at 65mph was a punishment bu tit would be an any light bike with 0 wind protection. I find it just fine for all the single track iv tried it on
The problem with virtually every fuel injected dirt oriented bike iv been on is the have a lean off idle pause when you hesitate while picking a line and can hickup or flame out.
The 6th gear while nice really isn't nessesary he bike does everything fairley well except riding behind a semi where the wind buffeting will beat you up and any light bike would do the same.

I replaced my DRZ supermoto with a CRF450L supermoto. It was nice but expensive and 450 maintenance schedules were frequent. The Beta is rumored to be costing around the $6k mark. I really just want another wheelie machine

If it even comes close to my Beta in the performance department it will blow you away , the handling and manners of mine are outstanding after i fixed the screwed up work from po’s

I avoided the crf450 because of the high maintenance and flame out issues. Came off a wr450f and sold it because of the high maintenance. I really miss the wr450 preformance a lot but i hated the constant maintenance.

This times 78! Does anyone truly expect DRZ/Japan reliability in the middle of nowhere from any Italian bike? :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
Who knows? The previous Beta Alp was powered by the Suzuki DR350 motor. I’m just glad that a mc manufacturer is listening to the prayers of past DRZ owners

The absolutely best bikes i have ever owned are all Dago bikes , built with the best components , comfortable seats that are still good after 20 years and in 23 years of riding only one had to be rescued and hauled home . Not to mention performance and manners that really puts a smile on your face .

there is just so much that changes when thy have to upgrade to new regulations.
I love the drz as is but changing to a 6 speed with fi would seem a good idea. In my opinion the suspension is fine as is. The power, while it could alway ise more is fine.
The crf300l rally suspension sucks, its way under powered has the typical off idle stumble of most fi bikes although not near as bad as many. The crf300 6th gear is pretty much usless where i live in the hills and it cant maintain 60mph on a 7% grade. Its heavier than the drz and 5-6 hp less which is huge on that size bike. In my opinion honda completely blew it on that bike. Mine was for sale in under 200 miles and i moved to the drz which im totally happy with. If i lived where i needed to run from 2,000 ft to 12,000 ft the carb would suck.
The added weight of a quieter muffler and catalytic converter alone would add unwanted weight.
I personally would not want to jump to a Chinese built bike just yet but their build quality is definitely improving.
As the video suggests its doubtful that the Italians would bring the bike to the us market.

Not really fair comparing the Rally to the DRZ. The non-Rally version does come in under the DRZ's weight and therefore becomes more comparable. Honda still made the CRF250/300 way too heavy and should have bumped the 300 closer to actually being 300cc. Doing those two things would drastically improve the bike and would have made for a better base to build the Rally off of.

If i sound like im being hard on the rally, i am. It was litterally the one and only bike i was ready to sell by the time i got it home and I bought it 30 minutes away.
Im still in shock that honda blew it so bad. The width in front drove me nuts but the worst part was the fact i could not make the rear tire break loose when trying my best shifting from 1st to 2nd on a 90 degree turn on dirt. Considering the crf300 is a 20 year newer design i expected better weight and performance. Should have done more reaserch.
To be fair i had a street legal wr450f before it and had tired of the crazy high maintenance.
The drz will do for now. If something comes up in the next few years that matches it or better in power, weight, and maintenance with a 6 speed and fi id gladley make the jump. Still looking for that unicorn. Lol

Kove 450 rally or the GPX FSE450r

I prefer the real McCoy
