New Bike, First Ride

As far as the broken spokes, I heard from the dealer today:

"Triumph approved a new wheel, that's the good news. The bad news its on back order. As soon as I get a date I can update you."

On the other forum about others with the same issue, there's a bloke from the UK that was riding in Spain when he heard a loud pop, find 13 broken spokes on his MY24 Rally Pro with 4,000 miles. He's glad it didn't result in a crash.

13 had to be close to a catastrophe. Wow
 
As far as I've read, for those that posted about it, no one has crashed or been hurt, guess that's why Triumph is being quiet about it. They keep replacing $900 wheels under warranty. A couple have posted about being stranded and having to tow the bikes, find a way home at their own expense. Not an issue with the GT and its cast wheels. Some posted about carrying spare spokes to replace on the road so they can keep riding. Most 900 RP owners don't seem to have an issue with broken spokes, or at least haven't posted on the Internet about it. Some 1200 RP owners have had the same issue.

There's 32 spokes on the rear wheel, 16 per side. It seems all the broken spokes are on the left side where the sprocket/chain is. Makes you wonder if it's a poor design. Some think it's a heat treatment issue for the spokes, others think a metallurgy problem post-Covid or even an assembly misalignment. Still, Triumph isn't saying anything. I'll let them replace the wheel but have also reported it to NHTSA. One guy in Canada reported it to their similar agency. They took the wheel and spokes to investigate. Replacement wheels aren't guaranteed to fix the problem either, as some have experienced.

Mine broke after about 20 minutes of 70mph speed. Another mentioned similar. Could be a resonance thing? We'll probably never know. I haven't seen where anyone with a 20 or 21 RP has reported this issue.

Someone else reported similar previously. Thankfully no one has reported a crash or injury. The older post mentioned the broken spokes damaged the brake caliper. All replaced under warranty.
 
It's a fun and beautiful ride! You do that minus the 4 spokes?
After getting it up on the center stand and rotating the wheel, I discovered it's missing 6 spokes. I found 4, kept them. Who knows where the other two are (still in Arkansas I guess). With the wheel replacement I'll purchase extra spokes to keep on hand just in case. Sucks having to so that.
 
All bikes have teething pains. I love my new Tuareg, but the fuel level sensor crapped out after 1k miles. Under warranty, just like your wheel (but less dangerous) ... those little foibles are what remind us we're not on Japanese bikes :)
 
I guess tubeless spoke wheels are more susceptible to failure than the tried and true tubes & spokes? Didn't the new 1300 GS also have a broken spoke issue? Perhaps the angle the spoke meets the hub - having to be way out on the rim instead of right along the centerline - causes more stress?

I've been wondering that myself. Still, it seems like the number of families is much lower than the number of bikes, so it's unlikely to be more than an aggravating factor.
