OK, here's our story, I hope it's not too long.
I started riding in 1972, a little Honda SL70. Bullet proof for a young racerwantabe boy. I would imagine passing Roger D. in the last turn at Saddleback on that bike. I broke the frame 4 times.
In high school, I could not afford another bike so a friend and I went in half for a used 125 Elsinore, a '74 I think. That didn't last a year, we were always short on money for breakage, and there was alot of breakage. Fast Bike, though. Well, I finally got my drivers license and that was the end of bikes.
Till I got married to my Girl, Mrs. C, as she is known on here. So after we settled down, I found a 1978 Can Am 250MX in the local paper. It was pretty clean, so it went home with us. Mrs. C saw how much fun I was having and decided she wanted a bike. We found an '80 Yamaha YZ100, and she enjoyed it. Then we quit again, injury on my part.
Then came the D/S bikes. '83 XL200 and XL350. And soon to follow a VF750 Honda Sabre.
At some point we rode the XL's in the Rockney Enduro. They were soon gone and XR's replaced them. '85 XR250 and XR350. Now we were ready for offroad riding. The XL's were fun, but we were more into dirt, maybe I was more into dirt.
My XR350 broke 2nd gear at the Nacogdoches Enduro in 1988. Common problem I found out. Sold and replaced with a '87 XR250, I liked the lighter weight and Mrs. C said I was much faster on it. Didn't hit as many trees either.
Also in '88 the Sabre found a new home, as we had purchased some land and were building our dream home, and I needed a riding lawnmower, for the 5 acres.
Here's a picture of Mrs. C "on the gas", on her XR250.
Soon Mrs. C was ready to upgrade so off I went and purchased her a used '90 KDX200. Lighter than her XR, she liked it. At this point I made a big mistake. I took it to the Last Post Enduro in 1992. Rode the 200B class, finished 3rd. Now understand, I got my share of trophies in the C class, but this was fantastic. Well that bike became my next race bike. Sold both XR's and purchased Mrs. C a new white KDX200.
Now for the mistake I spoke of earlier, to this point I have never raced another 4 stroke in competition. Some people would call that a mistake, but I love the sweet smell of premix in the morning.
So at the 1993 Red River Enduro I broke my left leg. That was the end of the racing for a long time. Sold the KDX's. Some time in the late 90's I purchased a used 90's KDX from a friend, who was letting me use it to set up trail at the Sidewinder Enduro. It is now up in Oklahama with my cousin's husband who needed a bike to follow around his kid on a Kawasaki 110. Every shop he went into said he needed a 450. He called me and at the time, we were taking care of parents, and it had not been out of the garage in over a year, so I took it to him and it is still there. The boy, Matthew, is now 14 and riding a Kawasaki 250.
So that brings us to were we are now. Mrs. C is now on a '08 KTM 530EXC, she loves it. Pulls like a tractor and after having it dropped 2 inches, it's 250lbs are easy for her to handle. I am riding a '09 KTM 690, and loving it. Offroad I am racing/riding a '08 200XCW and loving it. Neither of us are long distance road riders, but we have enjoyed Cloudcroft and the Blue Ridge Parkway on these bikes. Both are beautiful places.
Here's a picture of us in Arkansas.
Well, there it is, hope that was not too much. Sam
