I needed to head over to San Antonio to pick up a seat today and I mentioned it to @JMZ and he said he needed to go to San Marcos to pick up some parts at San Marcos motorcycles so I suggested that I should meet him at his house and we could just make a trip to get all the loot. He then mentioned it to @KsTeveM who decided to meet us at San Marcos.

I headed out about 6:45 before the sun had made its debut.

I meet up with JMZ and contrary to all the rumors he does still have a motorcycle and he can still ride it.

He had a good little route to get us to San Marcos where we found Steve waiting for us at San Marcos motorcycles. The guys at San Marcos motorcycles were great and we hung around a few minutes visiting.

The next trick was to get to the West side of San Antonio by 12:00 without touching any major roads for any length of time. This is where Steve comes in. He knows his way around that area for sure. He offered to lead and off we went. I think we only stopped to collaborate on the map 2 or 3 times. Found or location got the seat and put it on my Strom. Strapped the other seat on while Steve plotted us a route to get home but not to quickly. He showed us some great roads for sure. Not much picture taking just chasing Steve’s tail light and watching JMZ in my mirror.

I can’t say for sure exactly where we went but I remember Medina, Bandera, Pipe Creek, Comfort, Waring, and Kendalia to name a few.

I ended up with 435 miles on the day. It was a great day riding. Thanks to JMZ and Steve leading me around.

Got out today for a nice ride. Not a lot blue bonnets out to the north and east of Spring. Went north exploring and rode down some tiny no lane markings county roads up in Walker County. Ended up in Crockett for lunch at everyone’s favorite, the Moosehead Cafe. Today’s special was catfish, fries, hush puppies, slaw, and pickled green tomatoes.

Daniel and I rode through there that same day at about 2:30-3:00pm hoping to get lunch and they were closed. I did not look at their normal hours and was afraid they might be CLOSED... for good! Good to know they are not.

I test rode one these this Friday. I think they’re pretty cool machines, you can just get on it and go, even non riders shouldn’t have much trouble. However, the entire ride I was thinking how much better motorcycles feel to me. For the same price I could get a Goldwing or K1600 GTL (hoping BMW updates it this year). Maybe one day when keeping balance on two wheels is not ideal.

The original plan was for my fiancé to test it out but she couldn’t make it, definitely more of a fit for her than me.

First photo stop at Lake Whitney:

And finally a cool view on a bridge over a RR crossing on CR1104 Loop:

Took a ride today over toward Lake Daniel. The route was to Caddo, then south on gravel to 207. Turned west toward Breckenridge to 576. Rode down to the lake. Primitive camp sites. Not much there. Then I took some gravel roads making my way back to 717. Stopped at the DQ in Ranger for a hamburger. Took I-20 back to 281 and stopped to visit with Bert for a while. 166 miles today. Used about 1/2 tank, meter says 142 miles left. Not too bad.

I didn't ride in this time. A year ago most of the 9th and 10th WOC buildings were gone. I have ridden in several times over the years and it gets more run down every time. At least the prisoners are gone from the hill barracks.

I was riding a FM outside of Huntington (Angelina county in case there's another) when I happened upon a completely yellow pasture that was so deep, I couldn't see the head of any livestock as they grazed. I considered a uey for the pic, would the colors & depth show, etc. etc. I can assure you I was thinking of the wrong thing cuz just a few hundred yards later at @60mph, the pavement STOPPED COLD!! Right in the shadows of trees, I'm now on dirt riding a tourer! Fortunately it was hard packed so no issue beyond a butt pucker moment.

Other than adding 213 to the odo, this is all I have to show for the day.
