I can't decide if @Gravel Guy is my hero or nemesis. He's orchestrated a life for himself where he rides more in a week than I do in 10 or maybe 20. He seems able to control the weather (always beautiful) and the streams are cool and clear. And with sideways mentioned of "work" - I'm lead to believe he being PAID to do this? I have clearly made some wrong life decisions... As Mr. Guy himself would say "good on ya"!

Jeff, I am your friend and thank your for the kind words!
I would like to share some phrases that outline my philosophy on life:
1) "Good on ya!" Wish everyone else the best, because everyone needs as much encouragement as possible!
2) "AMGAP" As much gravel as possible....because that's where the good stuff is! I trademarked this in 2005. :lol2:
3) "I'm out looking at lots, boss." Yup, lots of gravel, lots of new roads, lots of new creeks and rivers with lots of new fishing or swimming holes, and mostly lots of Freedom. I might get hit by a bus tomorrow, but If that happens I will have seen LOTS today!!
4) "Can you ride for work?" Then do it! A body can stop and do paperwork after the ride is over or during if needed but another deal, another dollar is not going to change your life. On my deathbed I'll be remembering all that graavvellllll....So change jobs and find one that lets you RIDE!!

@GSTJOHN and I did some Walker and San Jacinto County dirt road riding. Got little warm at the end. 170 miles for me door to door. Did better than the bones we found. Had fun, had to back track some as I was exploring new roads. Found 2 gems, pretty cool.

Thats why his KLR has 110000 miles on it and one owner. GG used to be my neighbor he always rode.
 
We got out and rode today but we didn’t get to do the whole ride I planed out because of having to take me son to my dads and got a late start but it was a really nice day.
This is the route I had planed.

We stoped in Ennis to get some lunch and stoped at this place for some bbq and it was decent and I would go back.

I have the files for this ride if anyone wants it.
There was some gravel roads in some parts that was in a nice area but my FIL and MIL don’t like going down them much so I had to find roads around them but I’ll do this ride all the way and see how it goes.
 
Rode up to Lake Livingston from Sugarland today. Kinda just meandered around small back roads. Explored a few dirt/gravel roads, but kept coming to dead ends and private property signs. Still was fun! Came across this cool blueberry farm. It was closed, but the owner came out and chatted a bit.

@sportpackage thanks for sharing! Looks like a great route. I watched the video and it looks fairly big bike friendly. The loose sand stretches that you mentioned, are they frequent? Deep or just loose sand?
 
Took back roads to Bloomers in Elgin to buy sweet potato slips and visit with Marcus who wasn't there but Daily his son was. He loves motorcycles like his dad. Beautiful weather If you have never visited the stone art sculptures in Copland you will enjoy it. The hot rod shop/ museum in Thorndale is cool

Just don't buy your fruit trees there until you verify the proper cold hours / climate zone required to produce fruit :-) I'll leave it at that.

Rode ~220 miles around the south end of Lake Sam Rayburn this weekend. Did the ETBAR as plotted by Wander by Nature in his YouTube video, link below. It was a good route with 80% dirt/gravel roads and several places with loose sand.

@sportpackage , picture of water crossing, is that a ledge on far side to go over? Could be tricky for us big bike riders if it is!!!!
 
Me and @Dudeman70 spent a day riding in Buckholts at Let’s Ride Ranch. I recently purchased a YZ125 to start making some of the ride days around the state.

We got there early to beat the crowds and the heat as it was a holiday weekend.


Primo conditions as they have been getting much rain. Little dust but some big swamp holes.

@Simmons1 I did it in two days but you could do it in one long day (7-8 hours) if you wanted. We have a place near there so I used that as my home base. There is a motel just East of the dam and several Corps of Engineers campgrounds that would be a good place to leave a truck/trailer.

It does look like a ledge but it was not. I walked it first to check it out. There was some very rusty, and sharp looking, rebar down in the water though that I tried to avoid.
