Had to make a trip over to Cody this morning , hit 50 plus head winds from the northwest about 20 miles that way , it was a pretty brutal ride and smoke in the air bad enough that the mountains 5 miles away are not visiable . Took another route home , went southeast from Cody 25 miles than rode along the GreyBull river to get back here . there are bluffs most of the way blocking a good bit of that wind coming back that way . When I turned south it felt like I was setting almost still the tail wind was so strong .

Where do you up that way ?
 
Shell Wyoming , a town of 75 people they claim , never seen them all together at once , on highway 14 about 5 miles west of the base of the Big Horn mountains . 76 in the summer if you count me . 77 a lady lives in the apartment and works at the store all summer she said she might stay next winter . She has been here several summers from Vermont so there is really nothing better to go back to there .

Probably have been there, Kevin, @misterk and I stayed at the Elk View Inn. Been to Worland, Ten Sleep, Thermopolis, Lovell. Interesting.

The one up at burgess junction is the nastiest looking dump on the mountain , bear lodge at burgess junction looks decent but the restaurant and bar suck . Arrowhead lodge east of burgess junction has good food and looks decent but Ive never been in a room . If you were on the dirt roads up high you skipped Shell , its on the highway in Shell valley but only 4 blocks long and two wide .

It wasn't the greatest but we had went from Lovell up on Alt14. It was cold and raining and serious fog during the climb up. I must say, the Inn looked like the Hilton once we got there. The restaurant wasn't bad either.
 
I have crossed that mountain several times in that cold rainy fog and it is as nasty as a gulf coast fog in november , always in a truck so far so at least I wasnt cold and wet . The high country isnt so bad but it really sucks in the switch backs .
 
Did a 100 mile Mexican food lunch run with @GSTJOHN. Food was good. Thanks for lunch Glenn. Ride back highlighted by a 10 to 15 road construction stop. Only 100 degrees in the shade.

We had a great breakfast and BS session before heading towards home before it got real hot out.

I actually left at 5.30 this morning to have breakfast with my favorite Vietnam vet elderly friend at the firehouse then little cruise through town visit couple other friends back home by 11 it was already 97 degrees Dang Norden catalytic converter puts out some serious heat 🥵
 
Yesterday was a short work day, and I was thinking I might get up to Shelbyville, KY for one of those highly praised burgers at Carriss's Grocery (an old time country store), and then back down to Penn's Country Store in Gravel Switch... I pulled up the route, and there was no way to run the curvy roads to Carriss's and get there in time for lunch... I guess that ride is reserved for an earlier start day.

I pulled up an old route and picked out 150 miles of the nicest curves and went for the ride. Mid 90s and a bit humid. Probably too warm to follow a procession of round hay bale trailers at 20 mph... or sitting in one-lane construction stops.

But... the last 1/2 half of the ride was good, all back country roads, nice curves, and no traffic. Even in the toasty days, a little seat time on the trusty FZ1 is still great therapy!
 
I combined frugal shopping about a 50 mile ride. I almost surrendered to the TENDER but snared the $7 DEAL. Rode in a tee shirt and I always like full gear. Stay cool enough going to Taylor and home. Like Blue Flash. I am addicted and need my therapy even though it's August in Texas

I fully agree about the therapeutic value of a ride! Two of my favorite places to visit, DQ and Harbor Freight. Planning on a quick morning breakfast ride tomorrow...:rider:

Planning on going up to Nicholasville / Lexington this fall or next spring to see my friends for a few days. Might trailer my TW up there and ride some of the off-road trails. Such a beautiful area and awesome country roads to ride your bike. Rode my Honda AT from Cypress, TX up there a couple of times. The picture in my Aviator is from there in front of "Secretariat"
 
Rode to the iconic Oark General Store today for a burger. Took the back roads for an 80-mile semi-loop, including about 20 miles of the Ozark BDR.

Pop up work, the house AC, the truck AC, the E30 whatever the bleep is wrong with it..... all conspired to suck up all my time.
I'm ready to brave a little morning heat just to get the danged bikes out of the garage. The Beast has a cobweb on it!! :doh:
