Went out for a morning ride to get the gsa inspected. Made a big circle and hit some dirt roads in Gonzales county. A light shower knocked down the dust and made the paved sections slippery.

Found out the old county bridge on cr232 has been shut down. I guess @Aspear will be out here soon to survey for a boring concrete bridge.

Finally back to Nixon and passed inspection with flying colors. Ready for another year of day rides.:rider:

D.. They closed that cool bridge. I remember we crossed that last winter. Guess they will rededicate in about 10 years

Hope so, it looks pretty rough though.
Darby beyer used to walk across it with his hammer every few weeks to hammer the nails back in

They own the place right across the bridge on the right

What a pretty neighborhood. Even looks fun just to cruise around in. Ride on!
I REALLY like the mom and pop places. Honey's is definitely a MOM place owned by a woman who lives in New Waverly. They serve only coffee and biscuits. Their coffee is better than Starbucks, but I love their biscuits and gravy. They also have orange biscuits for those with a sweet tooth. There is another place between Conroe and Montgomery called Trixie's Coffee Shop on 105. She actually buys coffee beans raw and roasts them herself. Again, better than the chain coffee shops.

It started out grey and cold, but ended up blue and cold! I got in a nice 150 mile or so ride on back roads. Despite the nasty weather that came through last night, the roads were awesome. Barely any mud and excellent traction! Yankee’s was a ghost town. I stopped in to warm up by their wood burning stove. The Smileys in Bedias was without power when I stopped for gas, so I made it home on fumes.

Took a ride I call the Thorndale Lexington loop. Mostly tore up X Game county roads. Saw something new to me. Acrobatic bovine :). He took a tumble getting down and out of hay ring I assisted by revving bike engine. It freaks sheep and goats out. I love scaring new born calves :lol2: The one on the right looks dumber than a rock.

From Tuesday before the rain. You can see the dark clouds gathering. I found some roads west of 281 in Jim Wells county that were off the beaten path so to speak. And also some off pavement ones too. Went down 2 San Diego in Duval county and found some pretty decent off payment roads that I did not even know existed. Here are the pics , couple of old farmhouse pics too, always neat. Bout 100milesor so.

My fried chicken gauge was getting low so I stopped at Church's Fried Chicken in San Diego for lunch.⤵
3 pieces spicy fried chicken for three bucks with water... delicioso

Black vultures near my home on Lake Corpus Christi. I have to light firecrackers nearly every evening to keep them out of the trees or else they will crap all over the place

I need to learn more about architecture. I know enough to know that that electric utility line in front of this church really ruins everything

Anyone else notice an amazing number of abandoned homes while out riding back roads? The last time I was out with my son Daniel, he stopped counting around 75 or so in the space of a five or six hour ride. That was just in the area between Huntsville and Crockett. I am not just talking about really old rotting wood frame/sided homes either. Many were probably less than 30 years old, made of brick, and looked like they were in good shape until abandoned. I can't help but wonder if old folks living there die off and their kids don't want to move back to the small town and can't sell the property, so they just abandon them instead of continuing to pay taxes on them :ponder:
