So about 2 weeks ago we moved my FIL to Sugar Land from San Antonio. He is now in local Alzheimer's care 5 minutes from our house. My wife is now primary legal and medical guardian as her older brother died in a freak motorcycle crash last October. After evaluation by local docs and staff: they recommended Hospice care. Larry is stage six, and eroding quickly, so focus is on palliative/pain care instead of "cure". It has been a rough road for us, and 2019 realistically will be dealing with FIL's death, and my wife's enormous load and stress, and eventual letting it all go. Prayers appreciated. We have had two deaths in 3 months. I intuit Larry will pass before Easter. I support best I know how, mainly by just listening and being there. Thanks.

Prayers. Went through this with my grandmother as a child. I remember how hard it was on my mother and uncles.

Your listening and being there is all that can be expected, and will be greatly appreciated down the line. Hang in there. Dave.

All,

My FIL, Larry, passed this morning. He was in final stages of Alzheimer's. Mercifully he went fairly quickly. He has completed his life, and we have been blessed. We could use prayers for the funeral process, and close family members dealing with grief. We believe his wife, passed 11 years ago, came back to help him across the bridge. My wife had one last good day with her dad on Saturday. Thanks. As a family we have had three deaths since October, and hope this is the last one for a while.

Of course we want to say sorry for your loss, but at the same time, I know from experience it is also a relief, for you and the family. No doubt he will be sorely missed, but it isn't fun to watch a loved one going through a nightmare like Alzheimer's. The last good day is a real gift. We never got that with either of my grandmothers, but we did get it with my paternal grandfather.

Scott,

Thanks, you clearly understand the Alz grind. Yes, that last good day was Grace. We believe Larry's departed wife came back to help him move on, and that is what brightened his day last Saturday. He had a rare moment of clarity. Funeral arrangements in progress, it is never easy. Third one for us since October.... I will be glad when its done, but funerals are healthy for the survivors. God is good, all the time. This is where faith becomes real.
